Kelly Slater on the Occ-cast - video
We're a few days late to this one, but if you also missed it then sit down and enjoy, it's definitely worth half an hour of your time. Since we last saw Occ on the webcasts he's been attending the June Dally-Watkins school of TV presenters, such is his poise and lack of digression, while Kelly free ranges over an array of topics from kids, to retirement, to switchfoot, to food, to alternative equipment. All of it spiced with rich anecdotes.
In short, it's good shit.

On a grizzly old day here, that was 30 minutes well spent.
Yeah, as I posted in comments elsewhere, grab a beer and settle in ... some gems in here, including how little Kelly is actually surfing due to a bad back.
The question about having kids ... fuck, ya gotta watch the awkwardness. Classic.
Also, interesting how 'diplomatic' Kelly is around the issues with the wave pool. He sort of dodges the issue(s), and obviously Occy didn't want to rock the boat. I think there is a lot more to the issue(s) ... it's not ready for commercialisation just yet.
I can see this 'pod cast' interview thing working, mostly due to the approach by Occ. It's just so damn unprofessional, down to earth - just like he is out in the surf. Good content for Billabong to use in their 'content marketing' strategy.

If you liked that one then you will also like this recent interview with Kelly, he gets quite in depth and emotional in this one, very long but worth it to see another side of Kelly rarely seen.
Cheers for link Indo. That was a really interesting insight into some of his more personal side, particularly around his relationship with his dad. Well worth the long watch.
That was fantastic. Both very interesting characters. Bloody good fun.
With a little help Occy could create a nice little PodCast series the first one with Joel wasn't as flash as this conversation with Kelly with a few entertaining Occy moments to keep it light hearted.
Good on him for doing it.

So Kelly is a partner in his wave pool thing, fair enough. Makes sense. Got my conspiracy theory neurons firing though.
Webber wave pools seem to have gone quiet while Kelly's has gone gangbusters all while the bald man is very publicly using Webber boards. Any chance they've partnered on the waves too?
Doesn't matter either way to punters but it all got me wondering.
