Ryan Burch // Influent - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

It's the latest Ryan Burch clip and don't say you're not excited. Fella takes a familar approach: surfs a big reeling left, rides self-shaped idiosyncratic equipment, and moves with subtle grace (cases in point are the behind-the-foamball barrel at 2:20 and every layback gouge), however the slo-mo is something different for him.

Does it make it better...?

This fanboi hasn't figured that answer out yet.

Shades of that Gerry Lopez bloke.

Beautiful surfing on an equally beautiful wave.

Not sure what that nose is all about? Form follows function?

udo Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 03:55 pm new

Unreal surfing, @5mins im looking for the third fin is there one ?

stunet Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 03:59 pm new

Must be a twinny. See the .28 second mark. He's got a black-railed, fork-nose twin there.

udo Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 04:05 pm new

Yeh i spied that.

saltman Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 04:35 pm new

Great surfing as always
The Slo Mo ??
kinda detracts from his flowing style
But its great for the foam ball views

Fanboi ?

Does that mean you've rejoined the world of surfing, or are still ambivalent from the sidelines. Or being a dutiful editor.

Hoping it's the former.

Not wanting to compromise your well defined heterosexuality with a bit of man love Stu , but it's become increasingly obvious as time has passed that you are the kechap manis to the nasi putih that is Swellnet.

Good old surfing, great stuff. Lovely wave. It felt like I was doing the filming myself.

chickenlips Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 07:30 pm new

Is that the mooost beautiful wave on the Planet? Just asking!

goofyfoot Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 08:11 pm new

Such a perfect mind-blowing wave.

And he surfs it perfectly.

Compare this to the mad hueys clip and you can see why people are so quick to write them off.

@udo
I believe he is riding a tri-fin, and I say that as it is not a thruster in the traditional sense. I'm pretty sure this is an asymmetrical board. A single fin is on the toe side of the board and the other two fins, quite close together, (the middle fin is largely offset from the centre) are on the heel side of the board. The fin placement and pulled in tail shape is determined by which foot the rider has forward/direction of waves being surfed.

Maybe on some waves but go fullscreen around 5mins...that last one is a twinfin

PT73 Thursday, 27 Oct 2016 at 08:32 pm new

Yep you are right mate it looks to be a twinny. I honestly thought it was an asymmetrical. Brilliant control and style.

I'm wondering how functional those noses are? Seems to be a heavy dose of concave. Is this to assist in takeoffs by creating initial speed/drive?

That's a great clip. Nice to see such style on such beautiful waves. Please post clips from this guy, and never, ever, ever from those Mad Hueys fkn wankers.

MickS Friday, 28 Oct 2016 at 11:19 am new

There's genius in Ryan. If you've ever heard him talk about his boards, and surfing, you'll know what I mean.

Gary G Friday, 28 Oct 2016 at 10:38 pm new

Beautiful surfing, imagine how much better he'd be if he had thick legs though. His boards clearly aren't as asymmetrical as his workout shredding routine.

rooftop Friday, 28 Oct 2016 at 11:33 pm new

Beautiful. 2:49's the wave for me.

This guy will be talked about for years to come.
