Bezerke - video

Ben Matson (thermalben)
Swellnet Dispatch

Russell Bierke isn’t your average eighteen-year-old Australian kid. Tracing his love of heavy waves from childhood to the present day, Bezerke showcases the surfing of a levelheaded young man that sees challenge where most only see terror.

Love the way he negotiates the entry point on those slabs.

It sure hit my surfing soul. Great soundtrack too.

Some great boards under his feet too, I suspect.

I'll spend most of the summer riding waves that aren't as big as the lip on a couple of those waves!

Absolutely the future of Australian big wave surfing...his timing and positioning is what stands out for me...all with total composure. His backhand takeoffs on that south coast left are sublime.

When he was behind the foamball at 13.30 I thought he was gone for all money.

He's a good egg, rips n all, and his old boy makes some weapons...hmmmm, his head though. Could be holding him back. Reminds me of Mad Max 3. Two men enter, one man leaves...or Toxic Avenger or summat. I dunno...

That would make a cool nick/brand name though. Hey Toxy?

X 2. Best I've seen in ages. (John john's vids are excellent too)

Nice young guy as well.

Great stuff.

Jeeeez.........you think you've been out in some pretty hectic conditions over the journey and then you watch a clip like that. Very humbling. I reckon young Russell would just laugh at what 95% of us would consider heavy/big surfing situations. That was some of the most radical, cool and stylish surfing I've ever seen in XL almost cartoon like waves. Presents as a humble switched on young bloke too. Good shit.

Finally got to sit down and watch this after I read the comments beforehand.

Awesome vid and great production work showcasing an incredible young talent.

Have to agree, we just got a glimpse of the future there.

That was a joy to watch!!

Awesome in the true sense of the word. His weighting and body positioning were flawless made it look easy and there were some truly heavy conditions. Just seemed to know where go and how to get there. How was the camera man taking off behind him holding camera I thought that deserved a gong.

I find it pretty hard to even relate to; so heavy.

And how could you not wear a helmet if you ride waves like these regularly? I don't have one, but the waves I normally surf - while nothing even remotely like these - are all rocky and reasonably powerful, far from help, mostly solo or with a mate, and I feel like I owe it to my wife to get one.

Anyhoo, I'm an old kook, and in awe of what's possible.

Some good footage and some familiar breaks. How's the view from Pigeon House, could even spot dummies in the distance.
