Kelly Slater in 1987 - video

The internet never forgets! And let's all be thankful of that, especially when obscure little treasures are dredged from the vaults.

Take this show for example. It's an episode of Wave Watch, a public access cable show that ran in America through the mid-80s and was hosted by Peter Townend. This episode aired thirty years ago. On screen, PT runs a good line in Miami Vice chic: top deck hair, pink golf shirt, white denim duds, as he chats to the brothers from Cocoa Beach about their future plans.

It's timely viewing as, thirty years later, the younger of the two enters his last season on tour.

When did Kelly say this will be his last year on tour? :(

Wow weird to see Kelly so young, and i totally forgot he had a brother.

How good were the 80's.

Pastels, a man can never have enough pastels in his closet.

PT could never get enough pink. I have a photo somewhere of his late seventies north shore quiver, solid pink!

Wow ! So humble back then,... and still so. Such an awesome surfer.
Is there another brother also ?

Younger bro, Stephen.

Agreed, Slater's always been a cool cat.
