Filipe Toledo // These Days - video

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Here's a surprise mix, the gleeful hyperactivity of Filipe Toledo set to the morbid stagger of Joy Division. It's Filipe, so you know there's gonna be some air revs in there, albeit air revs spun at 45rpms, yet he does manage to surprise with a couple of hefty Off The Wall pits toward the end. It's the kind of surfing that'd bring a smile to Ian Curtis' face.

Mmm, nah, no thanks.

I appreciate a solid air game but it can't be your only saving grace

I dunno Billy, there were a couple of nice tubes mixed in there and some pretty solid hacks.

Darn fancy surfin' if you ask me.

Yeh I do agree, but his 6ft+ game is lacking...

I would much rather watch Taylor Knox or Shane Dorian chuck buckets all over the place.

Just made me realise that I can't remember the last wave I got that was more than a bottom turn, top turn and a bit of a speed run before it closed out.

There was one really good session back in the middle of winter I lucked into. Maybe that was it.

Of all the Brazilians on tour i think i like Filipies surfing the best.

But that said this vid is certainly a bit air heavy.

Wiggolly for me, all day every day. but under 3ft, then yeah, Filipe.

Agreed nickg, Wiggolly is the man. That wave he annihilated in Jbay last year (you know the one) was reminiscent of Occy.

he surfs like hes running late to get home . not an ounce of style

toneranger Tuesday, 31 Jan 2017 at 08:04 pm new

love the speed of those airs and the way way he achieves continuity on the wave.gotta be a smoker for the title this year

To me, Felipe's clip highlights just how good John John is.

If a fella can make something out of onshore slop like that, then he's alright by me.

staitey Saturday, 4 Feb 2017 at 10:03 am new

For sure what he's doing above the lip is impressive……….but……..

………When I'm watching clips for me its not just about what the dude is doing, its the waves themselves. I don't get a lot of enjoyment out of watching guys surf onshore slop. I'd prefer to see clips with amazing waves, unique places, uncrowded lineups, the surfing is second.
