How did the name BWA = bigwaveawards go from the oakley bigwaveawards to wsl bigwaveawards ? Originally the name was XXL awards . Why dont they keep their XXL awards name ?
They're two separate competitions.
The Oakley Big Wave Awards were Australian based (i.e. only waves ridden in Australasia could be contenders).
This competition - owned by the WSL - was formerly the Billabong XXL Awards (the ASP acquired this back in April 2014). The WSL has renamed it the Big Wave Awards.
