Jonathon Gubbins // Teahupoo - video

Jonathon Gubbins, eh? Name ring a bell...? For Aussie viewers you may have seen footage of him surfing Lobitos in Peru, his classic forward-weighted tube style distinguishing him from the ubiquitous crouch and pump crew. In another time, ol' Jonno wouldn't have been out of place with a downrailed single fin emblazoned with a lightning bolt perched under his arm.

Anyway, that's in Lobitos, his home break, here he is in Tahiti and it appears he's had to rein in his style to one more functional in drop down slabs. No time to shift your feet here, not when every move - the drop, the bottom turn, the rail set - occurs as one. Still, he makes the transition with ease.
