'As Worlds Divide' last Sydney show tonight
Following a sold out screening in Redfern, plus two sold out shows in Melbourne and Torquay, As Worlds Divide will have its final Sydney show tonight.
While living among the local Mentawai people, Rob Henry learnt of the systematic dispossesion occurring in the islands. Tribes who've lived peacefully and sustainably in the jungle for millennia are being forced into government camps by the distant Jakarta authorities, their culture and livelihood severed by the removal from their indigenous land.
As Worlds Divide is the result of nine years living among the Mentawaian people developing an awareness of their plight. It's also told in a charming and engaging manner - ain't no guilt or heavy messaging here.
All proceeds from the event go toward the Mentawai’s own cultural and environmental education program as a prevention to long-term poverty and loss of their indigenous culture, land, and sprit. There's not much to it really, get on down to Bondi or Redfern, fork out $20 to watch a fascinating film, and at the same time you’ll be helping save the very culture you’re learning about!
