First look at the new Wavegarden Cove - video
The lastest shot in the wavepool war has been fired with Wavegarden releasing vision of their new technology called Wavegarden Cove. Granted this is just a pre-release trailer, the full package comes in two days, but it's clearly a step up from current Wavegarden tech. A tad smaller, a lot hollower.
But is it as good as Kelly's hot tub? Yeah, nah...but then this one can allegedly create 1,000 waves an hour so at least the queues aren't as long.
Let the debate begin.
And while we're ponderin'...the wave that begins at 0:19 has a wedge shape and appears to be breaking pretty damn close to a solid wall. Are they amplifying the energy - i.e creating a wedge - to make it stand up and barrel? Anyone else got a take on that..?

The wave refracts for sure and the result is the lip gets a bit of chunk for a moment. Can't wait to see the next instalment.
A couple of slow mo shots, booties and gloves, clean water and sun shining.......it just doesn't look right.
To compare like-to-like we really need to see a full length wave. Don't mind if it's close framed/cropped (in order to not give away the tech) but short slo-mo clips aren't overly indicative of the wave quality IMO.
Will be interesting to see the next video though. Seems to suggest a step up in quality which is good.
Id love to know the kilowatts required equated to waves produced in both Kellys thing and this Wave garden concept. Maybe the freakshow will become more attractive if the carbon footprint can reduce. Im not a greeny by a longshot and I know these installations add an entertainment value somewhere, but for me they are a closer cousin to floor gymnastics than surfing where athletes perform on level playing fields to funky musical tunes.

All these wave pools (including Kelly's) need to be indoors to offer protection from onshore winds. Why build a perfect wave and have it ruined by howling onshore's.
Solar sounds beautiful until the materials used for the photo voltaic cells and batteries are looked into and the efficiencies and by-products are taken into account, hence my reasons for not declaring myself a greeny

Maybe a change in their bathymettry and a more acute angle of the wave to the bathymettry?
Definately looks more fun than the previous wavegarden. Had more of a power pocket to keep the more advanced happy.
I am no expert but I believe there MAYBE limitations to both wavegarden and kelly's, theylook like they seem to rely on the bathymettry and angle of wave direction a lot more. What is built is harder to change. Changing the wave real time is the key.
Yes I do believe Greg's is more superior due to the control over the trough. If this can be controlled real time then the fun / performance of the wave is less limitted.
Great to see where this can go, touchy subject for some but theyre here and we'd all love to have one.
That video doesn't show sh1t when it comes to the wave quality.

The wave looks so much better than the original wave garden in Spain. Can it handle much size though?
Not much to see really. Crouching so low that his back knee is almost touching the deck, a metre or two from a concrete wall with the odd light pole flashing by, he'd almost get the same experience driving a small car around the bends at Blakehurst. On the positive side, the water is blue.
Id still rather one wave at Kelly pool than ten waves of what i can see at this one.
Anyone know the progress on Webber's wave pool?? Apparently sunny coast was a location???
