Big Saturday at Bells - video

Rightio, first stills now video from Big Saturday at Bells. This clip is from Adam Robertson, who if my eyes don't deceive me is also in the edit riding a green board. From reports there were only a dozen guys out through the day. If you were one of them it's likely you've got a wave in here.

Unlikely. I thought Robbo was on a pretty short board (just over 7ft) given the way he was chucking it around, but another guy in the water reckons it was around 8'6". Robbo was definitely the star of the midday session, taking off way deeper and actually doing turns. Vic Local was very pleased with the "crowd" in the lineup on Saturday. Super friendly and encouraging, smiles all round, and how surfing should be. Sunday was back to normal with flappers everywhere. Here's an idea folks. When it's pumping and quiet, stop ringing up your friends and telling them about it. Here's another idea folks. When the crowd hits say 35 don't paddle out and fuck it up for the guys already in the water. The crowd on Sunday jumped form 20-60 in 20 minutes. Why anyone would tell their friends and then paddle out in a group into a clusterfuck is beyond me.

Before the sun came out, Gary watched a kneelo dominating in the morning. Kicked off on one well past the button and was pretty close to achieving the fabled Bells-to-winki link up.

Also, you talk about 'only a dozen guys' out, but by all reports there were some local girls having a proper crack too.

Great stuff. BTW How many Garys did you give it Gary?

Gary G Monday, 26 Jun 2017 at 04:13 pm new

Once you get above 3 Garys, even Gary struggles to articulate the marvel, and this was a particularly consistent offering. The Gary's just kept coming and coming and coming.

Whilst Gary was there on Saturday morning, most who chose to jump in the water had to be prepared to face a 3-4 Gary pounding on the button, with one set in the 4-5 Gary range that exploded all over everyone in the lineup.

Nice to see the dude take the set on the head for the bloke already up an riding rather than scrambling for the shoulder.

They are monster walls and really fat and burgery so you need a monster board just to paddle onto them. If they did wall up a bit more it would get pretty serious as those waves are thick with a lot of water behind them. That is one place if you get a big close out at that size it is a washing machine of white water. Not my thing but looks a challenge. Yes and Robbo can surf saw him in two foot Legian ripping next to me then this.
