Watch: Colin Herlihy finless on the outer reefs

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Colin Herlihy is an ex-pro booger from the US East Coast. Fella has been riding stand up for a while but late last year he went back to finless, this time on a replica of a 1937 Hot Curl - a short-lived design that featured a deep vee through the tail.

Paddling in early, Herlihy sets the tail into the trough and finds his angle, the shots with the Mokuleia Range in the background conjuring a primitive sense of Hawaii. Albeit one with a jet ski in the channel capturing the action.

I liked the filming also.

It wasn’t your sterile team / high performance angles but it wasn’t your faux soul solar flare garbage.

I liked seeing the hills.

Who was that band ? They’ve got a big future in front of them.

.........behind them Blowin, thankfully.

He makes that look easy, so hard to control...

Bet that would've felt good.

Worth a watch for the novelty factor, had a real old school feel to it (apart from the Jestski), but got old pretty fast.

I enjoyed it. Cool track too, are they new?

Bet old mate did a fair bit of swimming that day.

Far out, I reckon that was pretty damn good. Gauging the comments leads me to understand how we all get varying degrees of pleasure from surfing. I myself would be happy to have had a crack at that interpretation.
Looking back to the land was a great perspective too.
Wally might have taken a ski ride for the fun of it had they been available, bit smellier than an outrigger but the novelty value surely would not have been lost on him.

...well I enjoyed it. Mastering a Hot Curl is something else and it would have been a heavy beast too. They weren't powder puff waves either.

Good for 30 seconds but couldn't watch the whole thing as I needed to stay upright.

Boogie woogie Friday, 2 Feb 2018 at 05:12 pm new

Forgot all about the surfing and got lost in a forgotten Floyd moment

What is a "pro-booger"?
Surely gut sliders do not get paid for that........
If they do I think I will take up rap dancing.

Good to see something very different.
Finless board but no hyndesque spins done there...
