Watch: Taylor Knox // Apply Pressure

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Right, this clip is called 'Apply Pressure' and it stars Taylor Knox.

There's no irony at work here, no clever word play, no need to read between the lines. Over nine minutes, Knox repeatedly pushes his board through multiple versions of the full-blooded cutty and searing off-the-top, plus a few hot tub barrels for good measure. Was there an air rev anywhere to be seen? Course not...

Man, that is one of the best clips (shorts?) I've seen in a long time. All killer, no filler - he is a joy to watch

Taylors new clip to teenage riot :).
I wonder if he ever had a segment to that way back when.

One of my fav surfers to watch and he seems to be universally liked, but I've chanced upon surfing with him maybe five times around the world and every time he has been a complete prick in the water.

He was at my local a few years back and was humble as, waited his turn ,no attitude, wasn't competing for set waves and totally ripped the place a new one. Taylor Knox or not if he had behaved any other way he would have been told to f@?K off.

Interesting. For me it was in Mexico, Indo, Fiji and in Byron at the Pass when I surfed with him, all obviously waves where there isn't an established local crew and he can get away with it. Put him in a localised spot and he behaves.

Oh I like gossip! Who else has been like this to us mere mortals!
Once I waited for 30 mins for a set at winki which is hard for me as I would rather catch 20 small or mid size ones than just sit there..
So I'm paddling into a six foot bomb and occy who has just paddled of the beach comes under me yelling oi oi mine mine mine... F...cking pros and world champs lol hey Craig.
I guess I let him have that one... Never again.

Man if I were American (or mexi) I’d be hitting those points at the end of the clip every damn day off. Just looking at that territory on google earth gives blood without fail every time.

Watching the right hand point surfing in the last few minutes of the clip . Mick Fanning has always said Taylor Knox was his idol going up. Taylor has more muscle and Fanno is more refined, but some of those turns and the body torque is so reminiscent of Fanno you can really see the influence.

Holy smoke, check the styles between Taylor Knox and Mikey Feb, shows a big future for young Mikey

I have always appreciated the speed and perfect arm movements through his forehand dragged out roundhouse cutbacks. Crouches down and tilts his board to near vertical, and when done correctly speed is held. I like mind surfing waves and certain turns from within my memory bank, I would imagine having the memory bank of perfect turns in Taylor’s mind would keep him more than happy.

Being twins you could just watch each other surf and correct it? No joking you both rip lol...

I must be getting old... I can't see anyone on the Tour surfing like this. As said above, it is a pleasure to watch...

Woof woof 41 Tuesday, 6 Feb 2018 at 11:04 pm new

Actually you can! Julian Wilson surfs all his heats like this. Until he gets a interface and then he makes video parts in heats.

fcalmon Wednesday, 7 Feb 2018 at 02:38 pm new

Yep, agreed, Julian is one of the few that actually has power, style and flow. But, when in heats, he sometimes is forced to do some tricks to be able to advance in the contest. I am not against tricks but it does look a bit silly sometimes.... I rather watch guys like Taylor all day than 99% of the heats in small surf.

sounds cliche but stylish power surfing will always be a treat to watch...ripping!

Woof woof 41 Wednesday, 7 Feb 2018 at 06:09 pm new

Yes unless it's power airs or airs like JJF did at bells! Its no way as cool as seeing a bomb of white water go in the air after a well placed turn..
Good surfing is that, that intimates you . When someone paddles out and you watch from behind and it looks like the lockness monster is swimming through the wave with rooster tails flying 20 ft in the air.
This is way more crowed quieting than small powerless Air Rs
