A climate change odyssey: Four decades at the coalface
This Thursday, Newport surfer and scientist Ian Goodwin will talk story at the Avalon Bowling Club. Roll up for a beer and hear the good professor talk about his research work in Antarctica and on coral reefs, and how it's all interconnected.
Titled 'A Climate Change Odyssey: Four Decades at the Coalface' Ian will illustrate how our understanding of climate change has evolved. An inter-disciplinary scientist, Ian will connect the dots between climate change, ocean waves, and coastline changes along the East Coast of Australia.
He'll also talk about his recent work on the Antarctic Peninsula and how his research has lead him to investigate the need for planetary engineering to save coral reefs, ice caps, and glaciers.

Ian is Associate Professor in Marine Climate Risk and Deputy Director of the Marine Research Centre at Macquarie University. He's currently infatuated with a 10'7" Chris Christenson glider.
