Watch: Ramon Navarro at Cloudbreak

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

The biggest wave ever ridden at Cloudbreak? When Ramon Navarro pulled off the back of this whip in the question was immediately being asked.

There's plenty more footage to come so we'll hold off on the decision till later...

Almost as good uplift at blax

Craig Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 08:19 pm new

absolutely ridiculous!

thermalben Monday, 28 May 2018 at 11:23 am new

Love the girly screams from the peanut gallery as Ramon's threading the biggest barrel on record.

simba Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 08:20 pm new

Now thats impressive.......cant imagine the view hes got

simba Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 08:21 pm new

So whats the swell prediction for tomoz?

stunet Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 08:24 pm new

Similar size as this afternoon, although maybe a smidge under, but winds could present an issue.

Craig Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 08:25 pm new

Still XXL in morning, likely touch smaller than today, and winds are the tricky ones.

Dawn looks good, and the models diverge on a tropical low moving in from the west. EC has winds going onshore from mid-late morning, while GFS has it good all day.

Let's hope for the latter!

Island Bay Monday, 28 May 2018 at 04:43 am new

Latest GFS run has the tropical low tracking pretty much right across Fiji. Raining, and possibly iffy winds. With a bit of luck there'll still be S/SE winds.

That wave of Ramon's is incredible. Hoping to see some paddle bombs soon, and that Laurie Towner got one.

campbell Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 08:31 pm new

Sick! If keramas was 6ft today (as called) in that comp how big is this? Viva Ramon

simba Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 09:07 pm new

wonder how Kellys cymatic went.

dangerouskook2000 Tuesday, 29 May 2018 at 08:28 pm new

Probably shit coz it looks like a fucked board.

t-diddy Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 09:10 pm new

could've been deeper...totally kooked it

freeride76 Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 09:28 pm new

My God.

Was it tow only or did anyone paddle in?

lostdoggy Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 09:36 pm new

Seemed to be both happening.

udo Monday, 28 May 2018 at 07:49 am new

Laurie Towner rode a 8'6 .

udo Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 09:32 pm new

Anthony Walsh was looking into his GoPro while riding a 8'8.

ojackojacko Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 10:03 pm new

much prefer the wide shot without slo-mo. gives a much better sense of what it was actually like, tho watching video on a phone can’t even begin ... just insane

tango Sunday, 27 May 2018 at 10:11 pm new

my lovely surfing wife usually ho-hums when I try and get her to watch the good clips of the big stuff....but she was speechless watching this. Hope nobody got hurt - that wave would cut you in two at that size.

barley Monday, 28 May 2018 at 01:02 am new

#betterthanlairds ramon navarro you are king

Clam Monday, 28 May 2018 at 01:35 am new

Couldn't have been a better man to ride that wave.
Almost as big as the unridden one. it certainly double thickened, seriously mutant !
Im wondering why he pulled off ? His board looked skittery , maybe he was jittery after that history making ride

stevo777 Monday, 28 May 2018 at 02:41 am new

Much energy there ... imagine blowing the take off ha!

Island Bay Monday, 28 May 2018 at 06:30 am new

Really good Owen Milne edit here:

Lots of impressive rides on beautiful waves. Spoiler alert: Ramon's is the last one, and fuq me if your jaw doesn't drop!

Wyre Monday, 28 May 2018 at 03:25 pm new

Wow. I loved Ramon's smile at the end of that. It was cool to see the relationship between the tower/towee. And he was the right guy to get the bomb: Unassuming older hell-man done good!

simba Monday, 28 May 2018 at 06:46 am new

Yeah great waves, gutsy surfing and that last wave a fair bit bigger than the others .....love old mate in the yellow wettie having a go........brave men......even Kelly had a 9ft cymatic out ...not.

hillsintas Monday, 28 May 2018 at 06:47 am new

AMAZING...........
In space no none can hear you scream.
Imagine the noise levels of the thump & spit.

shoredump Monday, 28 May 2018 at 07:15 am new
Chipper Monday, 28 May 2018 at 09:33 am new

Amazing, crazy!... shit the place is a wave of consequence at 4-6ft.... imagine Restaurants at the same time....... that's where i'd want to be!!!

goofyfoot Monday, 28 May 2018 at 11:11 am new

So is it safe to say that waves like Ramons and the one Healey had to swim under a few years ago are un-paddleable?

Watching the pulled back clip of Ramons it looks incredibly difficult to see how a 8'0 or 9'0 board would fit into the curve of that wave on the take off

Clam Monday, 28 May 2018 at 11:40 am new

Loz Towner is going good by the looks of the media released the last 2 days .
Maybe hes up for an invite to the bwt events hey udo ?

Clam Tuesday, 29 May 2018 at 02:53 pm new

The swell had not even peaked yesterday arvo going by the forecasts .
Thru the night what would have been coming through CB
How much bigger did it actually get ?

Seymour Scagnetti Monday, 28 May 2018 at 11:51 am new

Holy Shit !..... Do these guys tape their ears back like rugby players? Ramon's wave looks like the spit could rip your ears off!
Not to mention what that foamball might do to your limbs!...
Fuck!

mredhill Monday, 28 May 2018 at 11:59 am new

This stuff is WAY more impressive than Nazare at triple the size. Can't wait to see the inevitable video/movie.

loungelizard Monday, 28 May 2018 at 03:46 pm new

the navarra wave does the thing the cloudbreak unridden wave from 2012 did that healy said he'd never seen a wave do before, where it looks like the foam ball dissects under the face of the wave , moving so fast it gets ahead of the barrel. if someone has a better (correct?) interpretation of whats happening i would be interested to hear

frother Monday, 28 May 2018 at 06:53 pm new

It's incredible that it can handle such huge swells, such a mind-blowing wave!

wax-on-danielson Tuesday, 29 May 2018 at 02:11 pm new

Forget the CT they should make Ramon 2018 world champion of all surfing

dangerouskook2000 Tuesday, 29 May 2018 at 08:32 pm new

Looks a bit like Teahupo'o

maka2000 Wednesday, 30 May 2018 at 09:45 am new

must be usual day at the office for this guy.
