Yep, he didn't paddle into those on that thing. I would be admiring his ability from the beach thank you very much.
Gary acknowledges that Taj's surfing is one of a kind - his ability to turn on a dime is super unique, and his bottom-of-the-wave-speed-trim-to-vert-backhand-lip-approach is also one of the best in the Biz (as seen in the macaronis section of that clip).
BUT.
Gary often wants to see Taj use all that speed from his approach to really thrust his rail harder for longer in his turn at the top of the stroke, whereas often it's more of a wham-bam flick of Taj's equipment and then he's onto the next conquest.
Personal preference, 'tis all.

yep, I enjoy watching the paddle too, the set up, was he under pressure or did he turn and go, its all part of the surfing experience including the viewing for me
