as much as i hated the movie 'the Drifter', i can't help but feel that Machado is a pretty cool cat. Definitely one of those surfers i never get tired of watching.
Also, for the same reasons, is why I love Japan too.

I've surfed with Machado, he never smiled once, never talked to anyone out at the break, had a very aloof attitude. I don't know him at all, but I took away a poor view of his attitude. Decided to watch this podcast as I do like the way some of these top surfers respect Occy. Well, blow me down , I really liked the way Machado came across, honest and humble. May well have judged him too quickly.
