Announcing: Swellnet Multi-cam

Ben Matson (thermalben)
Swellnet Dispatch

Today we’re stoked to announce the launch of Swellnet Multi-cam.

Exclusive for Swellnet Pro subscribers, Multi-cam allows users to stream up to four surfcams simultaneously on the same webpage. Check it out at swellnet.com/multi-cam

Although mobile devices are supported, your screen size will dictate how many cameras you can see at once. Multi-cam saves your preferences, so when you switch between your phone, tablet or desktop your favourite surfcams will all begin streaming immediately.

Multi-cam is not currently available on the App but will be added as a feature over the coming months.

Stay tuned for more new Swellnet features!

Not sure if this makes being stuck at work easier or harder?

surfiebum Wednesday, 5 Sep 2018 at 02:06 pm new

Nice. Any update on Moffs cam as yet?

thermalben Wednesday, 5 Sep 2018 at 02:17 pm new

Heading up the Sunny Coast later this month to fix a whole host of tech issues around NBN upgrades and legacy ADSL connections.

surfiebum Wednesday, 5 Sep 2018 at 02:33 pm new

Cool, so you're moonlighting as an NBN tech in your spare time now?
:)

thermalben Wednesday, 5 Sep 2018 at 02:38 pm new

I have developed a broad range of technical skills over the years! And yeah, networking is one of 'em (that's not the boozy type either, though those skills also come in handy every now and then).

Amongst a number of new products, we'll soon ad Replays to Multi-cam so that you can watch earlier sessions at four locations at the same time.

Sudden downturn in productivity is likely to be a feature in the next release of National statistics

Any word on Illawarra cams getting back online?

thermalben Wednesday, 5 Sep 2018 at 04:00 pm new

Yep, got a bunch of 'em ready to go, just waiting on final sign-off and NBN installations.

Cmon Gary G , may as well get it over with.

Gary G Thursday, 6 Sep 2018 at 09:15 am new

That's an odd expression, Greyhound. Gary's never heard that one before.

Most people tell Gary 'don't stop, don't stop'

Any word on the long proposed inclusion of Tassie surf cams on SNet?

Fozza Thursday, 6 Sep 2018 at 08:23 am new

P'tai Thursday, 6 Sep 2018 at 08:57 am new

Is this only available to Queensland cams or is there something going on at my end, as that is the only choice i have for each.

thermalben Thursday, 6 Sep 2018 at 09:01 am new

You should be able to choose any camera from the drop down menus.

Nice addition Ben. The site's getting better all the time and well worth $9/month. But unfortunately I live in the Byron/Ballina area so multi-cam (and Swellnet cams in general) are pretty useless as a surf check tool. The only cam in my surf area (Brunswick Heads to Ballina) is The Pass, which is a hoaxy novelty break full of loggers and backpackers and neither me nor anyone I know surfs it. Also, it's impossible to tell from looking at it what the real surf breaks are doing as you can't get a decent read on swell direction/angle, clean or bumpy, peaky or straight, true size and consistency or any other insights into what the real breaks might be doing. A cam with an overview of an open beach would be super useful for this, like looking over the Suffolk Park open stretch or down at Sharpes or some other east facing beach where we can can get a decent read on conditions. It doesn't need to be a known break like Tallows, Broken or Lennox Point, just somewhere that will help us decide if these breaks might be working, or if that secret bank we surfed last week might be working.
I'm sure it's a mission and a half setting up a new cam, but if your thinking about doing it sometime in the future please consider one around here somewhere.

Thanks mate, appreciate the nice words. FWIW, there's 11,761 beaches around the country (and probably another couple of thousand extra surf spots) so it may take a little while longer to broaden the coverage.

ojackojacko Friday, 7 Sep 2018 at 05:12 pm new

this is actually really useful - thanks. since we're putting in requests, getting the bondi cam back up or preferably a cam on a south-facing beach on the northern beaches would be quite nice thank you very much ;)
