Watch: Wajung // Dave Rastovich

Recently, filmmaker Nathan Oldfield was commissioned by the good folk at The Surfers Journal to make a short film. 'Wajung' was the result, a six-minute offering featuring the surfing of Dave Rastovich and the music of Nick Wales.

According to Nathan, "Wajung is the name given to the bottlenose dolphin by the Arakwal People, the traditional custodians of this region of Bundjalung Country on the Far North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Wajung can live for over fifty years and they typically live as a community as residents along a particular stretch of coast. As a result, they know the local seascape intimately."

As far as surf media goes, this is as opposite as it can get from the WSL circus hype. And there's no Jeep shredding the environment.

One of my favourite clips, to capture a session with dolphins like that!

I think the real genius of this clip, apart from the awesome spectacle of Rasta playing around amongst the dolphins, is managing to capture 5 1/2 minutes worth of footage of XXXX at this size (spot name deleted, although just about everyone on the east coast will know where this was shot) with only one surfer (dolphins excluded) in the frame. Bravo Nathan, keep 'em coming!

About 1-2 mins of footage stretched out in slo-mo. No hate, just sayin'

Really? I must be mistaken but it used to be my go to spot to get away from the crowds. Or has it gotten that bad up there?

Has Rastovich read the last article and is he aware of how dangerous it is to surf with dolphins that are sharks?

Awesome clip, awesome surfer, and I want one of those boards for this summer which if winter is anything to go by up here will be equally, if not even more, farked!

Really beautiful stuff - Love Rasta's style. Thanks to Nathan Oldfield for the fine footage and the special guest cameo Wajung dolphins. Was Rasta interviewed about this experience?

Loved the music, graceful, really suits the footage. Can't stand the punk/rock/rap shit that we usually get
