Watch: Parko's Last Lap // Hawaii

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Parko's last competitive season in Hawaii got off to a blinding start with a first place at Haleiwa, the only QS comp he entered all year. He's also made the most of the last two days of XL waves doing step offs among the Pipeline maelstrom, warming up for his last CT competition.

In this instalment of Parko's Last Lap his Hawaiian peers give him the brudda treatment. Historical footage of AI lends some gravitas to proceedings.

Step offs at Pipe? Surely no one out or unpaddleable?

Unpaddleable. Out of control.

Legend. Master of the fundamentals, rail & trim. Never will get old. Anyway now he has more time to put into his Barnwood Builders show. Thanks for the memories. All the best.

You know you're legit when the Hawaiians come out to sing your praises. How good would it be if he took out the Triple Crown one last time?

Geez, his surfing is easy on the eye. Has anyone else created such speed with so little body movement? Absolute top of the class.

Hope he wins the Triple Crown.

As a mate says, too good for his own good. Made ridiculous turns look effortless and sometimes not fully rewarded by judges because he made it so easy and with such flow. As one fella said in the vid, he brought the long rail game.

Only Curren matches him for flow and grace while pulling off critical shit. I rate him that highly, took me years to realise how good he is.

Fitting end to a great career.

I was totally thinking of Curren in my previous post. But I think Parko is actually better than Curren was - or maybe just benefitting from better boards.
