Watch: First lines from TC Oma
We've been watching this system for a week now, and watching websites, some of them supposedly reputable, putting up videos of the 'cyclone swell'.
Make no mistake, anyone who typed that doesn't know what they're talking about. Tropical Cyclone Oma only cleared New Caledonia and the Chesterfield Islands on Tuesday, with the forerunners making landfall at Noosa very late last night.
Early this morning the first waves of TC Oma were surfed. This was the view from Kirra hill looking up the line to Greenmount and across to Kirra, both of which suffered under the mid-morning high tide. The swell is building by the hour and anywhere that'll handle this afternoon's negative low tide, and is protected from the strengthening winds, has the potential to be seriously good.
After that? Who knows! The models show all hell will break loose and they've been on the money so far.

Had a sesh out there this morning from 5am to 6:30am.
It was extremely underwhelming at first light and I thought i'd picked the wrong day to hit it, then toward the end some bombs started filtering in, and kirra churned a few awesome rides from behind the breakwall down to butterbox.
Otherwise banks are terrible everywhere!

The most authoritative tropical storm agency in the world has been made to look stupid.
Even now, models are showing outcomes totally opposing each other.
Cyclones are nothing but spinning tops , flying around the globe on a whim. Even warm water doesn’t dictate their path.
Rio Tinto , BHP , Woodside , Chevron all get the best forecasts that ( a lot of ) money can buy.....and they’re always wrong.

Up the lookout at Kirra at midday & counted 13 skis working the stretch!!
Surfed at Greenmount/Cooly some good ones, fairly peaky some with no wall, was a bit frustrating, looked nicer in the early session on vid.
