Watch: Nathan Florence // There and Back Again

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

With older bro out of action, all eyes are on Nathan Florence and his new film, 'There and Back Again'. It's a regulation surf bio, buoyed by Nathan's light-hearted charm and artful reading of heavy water waves. On that score, most of the locales are to be expected - Chopes, Nias, Puerto - but the few waves at Bocas del Toro are a highlight.

Who da guy always complaining about slo mo in videos? Cant remember his name but it doesn't matter, he'll be here shortly.

I'm normally one of them, hate slow-mo, but if you're going to use it this is how it's done. A spattering of less than 1sec super slow-mo and straight into pumping full speed waves. Also looks sick on my new 4K TV.

Great vid. Very creative. How good is the picture quality! Some of those slomo close up pit clips are pretty surreal, not to mention the insane takeoffs. Why use a knife to make a sanga when you can use a surfboard fin.

Man...that ability to take off full speed under a pitching lip is art. Gotta learn me that...

Pressure piling onto the youngest Florence to perform.

lovin' these longer format films (NVT one too); you get to learn something about how critical and gustsy these take-offs are when the vision gives you context, not just the money shot barrel, setting it up is fascinating to me.

Except of course 4:26....thats the prices you pay for your art....ouch...

Epic.

That fade into the pit on the take off at Panama is nuts. He's nuts!
