Aussie Crawl!
Me and the boy went to Nowra Chilli and Chocolate Festival yesterday, set up at the local racetrack, sun out, glorious weather. Walking in and Power FM had a broadcast caravan with a cheeseball DJ team inside, first song was 'Beautiful People' by Aussie Crawl, James Reyne's barely coherent rant about the inanity of the model set, and looking around I reckon ol' Jim would've felt right at home.

Pity the WSL is gonna run the comp at that wave instead of Keramas from now on.
Let's hope the WSL keeps it at Keramas. That wave is fucked anyway. It's a great wave but the place is filled with zero-talent show ponies with brand new quivers who think that paying to stay at a 5 star resort gives them priority on the wave.
The last time I surfed Keramas, 2 out of 3 waves resulted in some shoulder surfing muppet dropping in, falling down the face, or just throwing their boards over the ledge at some poor sod with actual surfing ability.

I’ve got some conflicting opinions on Rip Curl.
Some are complimentary, some aren’t. All of which were reinforced by reading the recent Tim Baker book about the company.
None of which can distract from the fact that I’ve already watched this vid 4 times in 24 hours.

Enough of the false idols of Taylor Steele and the other crew who were tasked with nothing more than pointing a camera at the greatest surfing talent of the era ( modern collective et al ) . I’m calling that Vaughn Blakey is the greatest unheralded surf movie maker since Jack McCoy.
I’m thinking everything from Doped Youth to this effort.
From Greasy and Lemmy to Mick and Mase , he’s brought the necessary ingredients beyond the relentless surfing visuals. He’s brought the vibe , the tongue in cheek piss-take and the stoke.
Thanks Mason for making the effort to bring individuality and showmanship to waves of consequence. And for the elfin twinkle in your style that keeps the viewer interested.

And I agree with you regarding Mason's busy style. I find his whole act - surfing, talking, mannerisms - so incredibly contrived. Maybe he's there to make Mick Fanning look even better?
So many people complain about certain tour surfers and their poor styles, but Mason is all over the fucken place. There was one wave in this vid where he relaxed and just surfed it, and it looked great. He's obviously got the goods; just wish he'd stop the 13yo boy show-off schtick.

They did book a boat and were there waiting to pounce when the conditions were right. They might’ve had it for 15mins before I got out. About 30 mins later everyone was on their way. It was filmed well. There was ~50 crew on it. Kinda funny to see it as “ the search”. More like “the follow”.
