Watch: The O'Riginals // Beau Cram

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

O'Neill's web series, the O'Riginals, makes a welcome return with Sydney surfer Beau Cram first into the hot seat.

Older surfers will recognise the surname, maybe even recognise the front arm positioning through rail turns, but Beau has followed a different path than his old man, 80s pro Richard Cram.

Beau canned a pro career early in the piece and in so doing adopted an expansive view of what surfing can be. He rides different craft, travels when and where he wants to, and treats surfing as "serious fun".

When surfing stops being fun it's time to stop.

Cool vid.

Very nice.

The fella surfs well and has a great attitude.

Gary is comparing and contrasting content like this with the Kai Lenny / Steve Aoki wavepool clip released by the WSL today.

Whilst Steve Aoki's music is like Beethoven to Gary and his ilk, the WSL surf content is not to Gary's tastes.

This clip however warms Gary's gusset just like the products of the brand that it is promoting.

Loved it. Tons of stoke, and a great attitude.

Just like you can see flashes of Michael Ho in Mason, you can see Richard Cram's signature moves in Beau, like the cocked left arm leading into a cutback, even the angle of the knee between turns. Amazing how simple a surfing stance appears yet how nuanced it can be.

Enjoyed watching him ride all those craft too.

Yeah good fun and there is nothing that cuts back like a twinnie, they gain speed in the turn through a much longer arc than a thruster. Still can't quite get my head around the poo stance finless, fun to do awful to watch, and his approach to walls was great too as they are poo, pooed by surfers following Slaters Dementia Generation.

Dick cram. Never heard of him but I reckon him and his mates had a laugh with that name back in the day
