Watch: Meet Tony!

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Nazare has been on the big wave map for a decade now, which is time enough for a homegrown surf culture to bloom in the old fishing town.

The first wave of legends were from elsewhere, G'Mac, RCJ, Cotty, and T'Lowe, but a local crew are coming of age, and they'll soon be the names that become synonymous with the wave.

At 15, Tony Laureano is the likeliest to wear the mantle. His old boy, Ramon Laureano, is a Nazare heavy and a professional jet ski driver - an important asset at the world's biggest beachbreak.

And judging by the sheen of this video it looks like ol' Tony has also got some good media contacts in his corner. We look forward to seeing more of Tony and his big boards.

Great footage of mediocre big waves ridden reasonably by over-hyped teenage sensation

Typical bloody 15 year old

Old man's on the ski trying to point something out and young Tony's looking the other way!

The kid charges damn hard. Taking on the biggest waves in the world which just happen to Iive in his front yard. Not taking a backward step , experiencing moments that the rest of us can’t even begin to imagine.

Fucked if I’d be risking my life for those freezing cold , brown close outs though. If I’m going to die for a huge wave it’s going to be warm , blue and hollow like jaws.

Not much chance of that happening either , to be honest. None actually.

So yeah , go Tony ....cause I sure as shit don’t want to.

There’s a lot of 15 year olds in his part of the world that think they are sh#t hot that wouldn’t even take off on waves half that size. Or maybe they are 25 or 45 . . . or whatever. Point is he’s 15 and having a go, while guys like me are wondering how he can even survive a wipeout, let alone take the drop and go for it. Go Tony!
