Watch: Red Dog // Beyond the Breaking Point
...and now for something completely different.
Crossing my desk this morning was a trailer for a film on Brent 'Red Dog' Symes. You heard of Red Dog? If not, think of a surfing Les Norton. A raw, carrot-topped lad from the sticks, with a big head and an even bigger heart.
A classic underground surfer, Red Dog moves about picking up shaping work in various board factories, but that's all incidental, as he really lives for chasing big waves. Think Naz, Mavs, Cloudbreak, and Puerto.
First sign this is gonna be something different is the voiceover, fella sounds like John Wayne who's dropped an extra testicle for the occasion, and then there's the general tenor of raw beef with a side serve of corn, all packaged against a journey of overcoming mental illness.
The film will have "a splash of comedy along with a compelling message", says the director Teddy Giard.
Like I said, something different.
Released October 23rd.

I seen this guy get dropped in on by a brazo at dbah & red came from behind and coat hangered the fucker clean off his board and said mate i don't come to your country and carry on like that. By far the funniest thing I've seen in tge water ever. The brazo was white in shock. If it was on the footy field he would of got sent off with a 6 week suspension. In this case he got applauded and rewarded. Legend
