Looks super fun, I've got a block of land about 10 minutes drive from here, but never even surfed this beach, we bought it a long time ago and never been back, but i have been thinking seriously about building a little house to rent out and maybe spend a bit of time there in the off season for waves like this.
Yes please. I’ll come and rent it!!!
has main electricity, so A/C :D
Sign me up!!
Have surfed the joint, pretty fun. Brown water in Indo is off putting.
Never mind the used nappies and dog carcasses floating around the lineup.
What is it about this area and used nappies ?
They’re everywhere.
Not at my local!!
For Beachies in that area, I prefer the one 15Km north.
long beach with the river at north end?
:)
I was in the area for a month in 2012. It was pristine on the beach and the water was super blue. We didn't get it as perfect as I've seen on their IG but it was super fun when no real swell running and nobody around
Thoroughly recommended
The paddle out can be a royal pain in the arse sometimes.
I was on a ferry from Padang to Katiet about 15 years ago. In under 10 hours roughly the duration of the journey I saw at least 5 soiled nappies from different families getting bombed overboard. That was one ferry trip 15 years ago.
Now think about the number of ferry/speed boat transfers that are completed between all of the islands in the Ments let alone the whole of the Indonesian archipelago from east to west each year .That’s a lot of dirty nappies.
You can have those suspiciously brown Indo waters.... give me clean cool WA waters any time.
I am guessing it’s more of a shoulder/offseason destination due to Tradewinds?
Early morning crowd soaker.....god love it !
I've always wondered why people would fly all the way to Indo to surf beachies......serves it's purpose for all those Euros though.
That’s my dilemma. Looks so fun but if you’re dumping coin to get there you may as well go to the ments ay?
Have travelled extensively through this part of Indo and surfed this beachie a few times. It's a fun set up but there are some seriously hollow and heavy reef set ups nearby that should be the priority!
Yup. The well known point is farked - every nation that has ever seen surfing on telly is out there....but.....as you say some heavy uncrowded tunnels not far away.
I have mixed emotions regarding this coast. Not sure I’d choose it over other trips in future.
My thoughts exactly...of all the surf trips I have been on...it's the one place I would not go back to...waves yes...but other stuff...
I was paddling in after surfing that krui left...you kind of have to weave your way through some obstacles...and a friendly local wandered on down to the shoreline. I'll be stuffed if he didn't lift his sarong...squat down and present me with an Indonesian obstacle of his own making.
I was stuck in the rip and the bastard of a thing seemed to chase me...I paddled north and exited via a different spot
Like you say the waves are pretty good without being ‘perfect’. But other things such as distances between spots, hassle to get there and some of the general vibe at certain areas didn’t lend itself to me wanting to do a yearly trip.
Yeah look out for the Ranjau if your down there
I spent three weeks in the area awhile back. The swell never got small enough to surf Mandiri. Had some fairly epic waves at the other spots though. Including the one that wants to kill you.
