Watch: Mason Ho and Hurricane Douglas

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

Mason goes wave hopping on Oahu's south shore during a hurricane swell.

Don't go complaining about wave quality, that's besides the point. What we have here is the optimal setting for Mason - that being onshore wind and random wedges. Wedges that sometimes run at 90° to each other that get me wondering what the ideal angle of interference for a wedge should be. A wedge with an acute angle, like say Whale Beach in a north swell, that makes for a long-running wave, or something more like this where the collision almost seems head on.

For mine, the more subtle interference would be preferred but then you see waves like that at 2:20 where Mason zigs and zags like a foilboarder on the one 'wave'.

Imagine the sinus dribble after a session like that.
Surprised Dylan Graves wasn't there.

It was more the sand jammed where sand shouldn’t go I was worried about

The long boarder was more optimistic than Mason.

The one when he goes left, makes it onto the rebound then heads right. Good stuff. Liked the soundtrack as well.
The board caressing at the end was a bit odd.

That was epic. So much to love!.....close outs, backwash, re bounds and sand. Good as it gets!
