Brian Jackson Rides His Last Wave

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Swellnet Dispatch

"Cronulla lost its most iconic surfer today with the sudden passing of Brian Jackson. He was 85."

Jacko made his first surfboard - a balsa board for Bobby Brown - in 1959, and was the founder of Cronulla's longest-standing label, Jackson Surfboards.

Click to read the obituary from another of Cronulla's favourite sons, writer and photographer John Veage.

One of the originals. I remember a photo of Brian in a longboard mag quite a few years ago kneeling down on his mal with the biggest smile on his face .Not in the best condition but still stoked on surfing and getting out there.

... from his obit: "His final resting place was fittingly under a frangipani tree at a place he loved." We should all be so fortunate, hey.

Jacko, vale legend! Top bloke! He sold me my first surfboard at 11 years of age, 1971. 5'10" egg, marble bottom. Still have pics. Great quality boards, a reflection of top quality workers!

Bought a second hand 7'2 80's Jackson thruster off my neighbour in 1996, board was probably 10 years old then, still got it, still surf it, still goes good. RIP Brian
