South Australia is a wave-rich state, yet all the waves are a long drive from the state capital. This makes the life of Adelaide surfers different from those in all other Australian cities. When the nearest 'good' wave is 4 hours away there's no such thing as a spontaneous session and forward planning is always required.

Doesn't mean they miss out though.

Weekends often begin with long drives on Friday night and finish the same way on Sunday. While holidays allow more time to rack up the highway miles to reach the far-flung areas of the state. If you're a surfer in Adelaide you'd better have a good seat of wheels.
