With the recent run of swell on the goldy Is it going to be a case of you should have been here yesterday?

ACB__ Wednesday, 25 Feb 2015 at 02:22 pm new

yes.

roubydouby Wednesday, 25 Feb 2015 at 03:04 pm new

Not according to my tea leaves.

Blowin Wednesday, 25 Feb 2015 at 07:59 pm new

Julian Wilson to win.

I didn't even know I was going to say that, my fingers just worked the IPad like a ouija board in a seance .

Must be true.

stunet Wednesday, 25 Feb 2015 at 08:06 pm new

Ricardo Christie. He wont win but the underdog always gets my fist pump.

Haven't even seen much of his surfing but the little I have he's been playing hide the stringer. Impressive.

thermalben Wednesday, 25 Feb 2015 at 08:15 pm new

There'll be a couple of small slow days early next week but right now there's potential for some fun Snapper this weekend and then mid-late next week and beyond. Doesn't have to be overly big for it to be really good - seen plenty of good comp days when it's only 3ft. As long as the tides not too full and winds are OK (weekend sea breezes may hurt it) they should do reasonably well.

donweather Wednesday, 25 Feb 2015 at 10:53 pm new

Do they have to run the trials during the waiting period also? ie the trials start on Sat 28th?

Blowin Thursday, 26 Feb 2015 at 10:07 pm new

Ben , do you think Snapper will be run on Sunday morning ?

I reckon Filipe Toledo will do well also. A Toledo / Wilson final . Is that possible ?

bigkiwisi Thursday, 26 Feb 2015 at 11:44 pm new

It would be awesome to see Ricardo Christie do well in this first event. Kids got the skills....!!!

indo-dreaming Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 10:02 am new

I just want to see if Kellys on a Firewire?

thermalben Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 11:01 am new

Recent photographic evidence (from the 25th) would suggest otherwise (courtesy Steve Triance).

Whats the decal on the rail read ?

thermalben Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 11:05 am new

"Buy my products, dammit!".

indo-dreaming Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 12:33 pm new

Oh damn i was hoping to see him on a firewire makes thing more interesting. (not surfing wise) just the whole deal.

morris Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 12:55 pm new

Pommie Steve Triance, that bring back memories. Ole Pommie Steve started out down our way, hopeless surfer and top bloke, new he was a kook and was proud of it. eventually became a very good photographer and teamed up with greg brown, case, darbs, wilber, flinno and a few other and absolutely raped and pillaged sw vic in the early/mid 80's in a frenzy of self promotion , he then moved on to windsurfing in Maui and then the last I heard until now had settled into the Gold Coast had taken up the more respectable art of porn photography, a natural progression from surf photography I thought.

If you read this Steve I hope things pick up for you and you can rise above taking pictures of surfers, still doing good work.:-)

brutus Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 01:37 pm new

yeah morris....Steve T was a great bloke....and took some fine photos......rapers and pillagers in the 80's....bastards..the coast must be destroyed by now!

thermalben Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 02:05 pm new

I met Steve through a mutual friend about ten years ago and ended up buying a car off him! Classic fella.. those Vicco images from the 80's were timeless.

shaun Friday, 27 Feb 2015 at 02:33 pm new

Couldn't buy a car off of anyone with an accent like that.

lostdoggy Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 06:23 am new

.

southey Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 12:51 am new

Yeah a few of those photos have had legs over the years .
Best you get rid of that link dog lost .

Ben , I spent a fair bit of time on the phone last night trying to help out .
Least you could do is email the website troubleshooting post back to me !?!
Just trying to hook a brother up .
Shaun about time you started waiving that Forum modification wand of yours , I can feel the black clouds rolling in !

seaman-staines Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 05:11 am new

Kelly must be contracted to CI still, I saw a post on FB with his new CI's in the back of his car with the latest CI grips and CI board bags, straight up advertisement for CI.

morris Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 07:09 am new

Shauns half way to Adelaide southy, the best you can do is fill this up with meaning less posts and bury it on the back page, Stainesy will help you out there, by the way nice piece of stalking from the Staine.:-)
It wont take long as when the contest starts there will be more important things to talk about. What brand underpants Kelly wears, did Stu ever emerge from the VIP tent? Has Occy lost any weight and so on.

I could fill you in on the history of that period lostdoggy but I'd be poking a stick at a hornets nest, but what I can say is those pics were taken over a ten year period figure it out for yourself.

thermalben Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 06:42 am new

Surfline are now the 'official' forecasters for the Quik Pro.. and it's interesting to see their take on things - particularly with regards to the front pushing through the lower Tasman mid-week:

"As a result, a sizable South shifting SE windswell/chop will build over Friday into Saturday the 7th. In addition, a secondary South groundswell (sent by the winter storm crossing the South Tasman) will build into the Gold Coast over Friday into Saturday, mixing in with the more dominant windswell energy. Overall, this swell-mix is looking to be strongest on Saturday the 7th, potentially with chest-head high occasional overhead waves at Snapper, but rather jumbled and with breezy SE wind."

Head high to overhead waves from a Southern Ocean front/low combo, plus a "sizable S shifting SE windswell/chop"? That is a massive call (and highlights their lack of experience forecasting for SE Qld).

Erm, huh?

morris Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 07:32 am new

Southy unfortunately although shaun has only been an intern for a very short time these boys are dropping the ball even more and relying on him more and more to run the show for them.

Just between you me and everyone else southy I got some inside info off of shaun about ben, apparently Erm,huh? is his standard answer to any questions without the at least one of these key words, front/low, depression, interval, swell or fetch. Just re-ask the question inserting any of these words and you'll think your talking to a completely different person.

thermalben Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 08:55 am new

Hilarious how the Quik Pro broadcast makes us wait through an extended Gabby interview to 'find out' from the commissioner whether they'll be running the event today, yet they post the same info almost twenty minutes beforehand on Twitter.

maddogmorley Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:09 am new

Anyone else having problems with the coverage?

I can see the advertising but then once that finishes the screen goes black.

eel Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:15 am new

Not working for me either. Very unprofessional. Last comp (Pipe) they called it off on the day of the year. This comp the webcast is crapping out on the 3rd heat.

maddogmorley Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:27 am new

Now it appears to be working. I can see the dawn patrol. Seems they have switched to YouTube.

thermalben Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:29 am new

Was streaming fine an hour ago when I was watching - webcast stream was excellent too.

maddogmorley Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:30 am new

Yep all good now Ben

thermalben Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:31 am new

Just logged in - it's still the 'new' player (not YouTube). Streaming fine here right now.

simba Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:32 am new

Watching the heat with slater and boy has he been under scored, that reverse carve he did was as good as they get and then he ripped the bag out of it and he got a five plus should have been seven plus imo.Notice hes riding a merrick not a firewire.

simba Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:33 am new

Seems like they dont like kelly anymore judging by the scores their giving him...boys are ripping though.

maddogmorley Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:36 am new

Yeah it's the new player for me too....the dawn patrol I saw just before it started working was on YouTube for some reason.

seaman-staines Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:46 am new

Pottz just informed us mother nature comes in waves and swell does the same, wow what an insight.

eel Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 10:47 am new

Yep working again now on the live feed. Was showing the dawn patrol before

thermalben Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 11:03 am new

Dunno what the 'slow' button is intended for - user generated slo-mo vision? Either way, it doesn't work - I clicked on it once, but couldn't get back to the live stream.. had to completely refresh the page (which triggered another preroll ad).

Alright I realise where I went wrong Morris ....
I'll try again ,
Sorry Ben , after fighting hard with Floyd , I've managed to take on the responsibilities of Delegation in the
NEW improved swellnet office . Firstly we've had an impromptu round table , and we've all Agreed - conceded that the name has to go . From hence forth we'll be known as Sell-Wet , this keeps in line with reliable market research carried out in the key sporting audiences of NFL , and generally sexy's everything up a little .
The question I asked , now re written is :
I spent quite some time on the phone with all the new stake holders Thursday night . And with such information , I FRONTED the "website troubleshooting " thread ( not wanting to distract and clog your real money spinners in the newsreel ) with a new Topic : helping the overworked existing team by relieving them of some of their benign duties . . There has been quite an INTERVAL since its posting to now no appearance and I feel we've hit a new LOW . Without a response or showing, I feel a few will fall into a deep DEPRESSION . This is unfortunate as some of the key members had already found SWELL ideas to shorten the long road to Internet fodder domination .
Just a small sample of new positions included :
Floyd - outsourcing ,
caml - transport and logistics
(this could of saved some of Shaun's energy for his calling in life - forum moderation ) ,
Mikehunt - is on Fire warden duties ,
Etc .....
Anyway with Shaun busy on his GREATER CIRCLE PATH , Morris best you go FETCH the coffees you may need a CRADLE ( there's a few of us calling the shots now ) so WE can sort this out .
I think if we can sort this ( finding internships from the readership for every aspect of the business ) out soon , then we will fair better as the Sport enters a new spell of a LONG WAVE TROUGH in fiscal earnings .
If we all pull together and organise ourselves we may be able to ride out this STORM (STC WeaSeL ) .

simba Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 11:59 am new

If we all pull together.............really southey?Your fired!

morris Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 12:13 pm new

Southy, I don't think this is the time or the place to be doing this, if you read through this thread
you may pick up that he is not in the mood for any of your fantasies, didn't you note the hostility toward surfline and who wouldn't be, foreign forecasters with limited local knowledge, really!! Is this for the good of Australian surfing, yet another Aussie burn't at Kirra, I would not bother him until he has a par of clean underpants ironed just the way he likes.
Perhaps if you have to, take you whimsical plan to Stu, he's probably left poor ben to run the site while he's gone up to bags his stool at the bar at the Quiky pro, by this afternoon he will be very agreeable, tomorrow he wont understand a word you say.

thermalben Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 12:37 pm new

Can we keep this on topic fellas? You'll be pissed if your posts are deleted, and the easiest way to ensure that doesn't happen is to make sure they're in the right place. Which is not a Quik Pro thread.

floyd Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 01:11 pm new

Hey Southey,

I've been a good lad and gone surfing just like stu told me too and I've come back to see I've landed a job with SW, in charge of outsourcing no less.

I'll take this role very seriously given the staff doubling overnight from 3 (isn't that ironic - see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil especially about the circus and their monkey's mis-behavouring at Kirra for the last 2 weeks) ..... anyway back on topic .... outsourcing

Been thinking SW is at serious risk given the obvious single cell dependancies (o.k. I'll define: an individual in an organisation with unique skills or knowledge that can't be easily replaced if at all if that person leaves) so outsourcing might prove a way of improving the risk management KPIs.

Hey, I've started work without agreeing on my employment package ........... WTF

Now ben, don't delete this is as its about as serious as I will get about any surfing contest thingie marketing logo fluffed corporate wank fest.

To be fair i did try to start a new thread in the " website troubleshooting section " ....
Of which needs to be rattified by yourself or Stu ....
Maybe Stu didn't like his new role and decided to Delete it ....
Maybe he's been in the VIP tent since Thursday ( in participation ) and you've been too busy doing everything else to notice .... I really am just trying to lighten your load ! ;-))

simba Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 02:21 pm new

Looking a bit lame now but the goofies have been lighting it up.

davetherave Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 08:04 pm new

great surfing, it is a pity the waves are not that good and the format is too slow. The general public wont get that excited by long periods of no action. Wonder how many in oz changed channel to cricket or v8's and in brazil i reckon the there was a lot of channel surfing going on. Wonder how they will play their hand about viewership numbers?

mikehunt207 Saturday, 28 Feb 2015 at 03:24 pm new

Is that a cock and balls decal on kellys board?
