The only time i listen to JJJ these days is for Dr Carl, anyone else hear it this Thursday just gone?

Was an expert on Ebola in and dealt with a lot of these conspiracy theories.

Interestingly they have traced where it started also, from an area where they eat raw bat as a delicacy, apparently bats carry ebola with not negative effects, dirty things those bats carry all kinds of disease.

brutus Saturday, 25 Oct 2014 at 09:44 am

oh damn....I have just goy over fighting the dreaded "Avian Birdflu".....as this was supposed to be the next Armageddon...now ya telling me its the ebola virus...damn......

just cleaned up " the chook shed"......all chooks gone......how do I get rid of an ebola??

its ironic that down here the biggest epidemic is ICE.......still loking for a cure other than prison!!!

The world is over populated.
Man made diseases are designed to do two things.
1.Prune the population. 2.Create wealth
End of story.Fullstop.

Sheepdog Saturday, 25 Oct 2014 at 01:48 pm

This thread has morphed somewhat... A bit like a virus lol....
My main point in all of this isn't about "ebola".... My main point/s is about conflict of interest, about one of the foundations of the modern free world, an independent media, being able to diversify into areas which allow the "independent media" to be bias towards those diversifications....
The "paid news" phenomenon.... The only country trying to fight this believe it or not is India...

Lets go to one of Blind boys pet hates... Global warming.... hypothetically speaking, lets say News ltd, or Fairfax, or Reuters, or NBC diversified their holdings, because print media is dying and they wish to survive, and they purchased a major player in Nuclear power....... Then let's say they through their chief editors started to push "nuclear can save the world from climate change", affecting public opinion, governments, polls etc..... Then within 6 years, there is a nuclear power plant upwind from YOU... ("Hey, if you don't love it, leave!")......The "independent" media, through it's tentacles has coerced society, and now is making trillions not through news reporting, but through it's own sale pitch of nuclear power... Cha ching.....
Put aside your opinion on nuclear power... Do you think that one of the foundations of the free world, an independent news service, should be used like this? BB, instead of using nuclear as an example, we could use coal, and have the "free press" highlighting the economic destruction of winding back coal and the pause in global warming.... Is it really "news"? Or is it crafty advertorials?

Another example I could throw would be "G.E".... General electric, major supplier of military hardware, military jet engines in particular.... Since 2003, GE has been awarded U.S military contracts to the tune of 22 billion 484million 307 thousand 154 dollars.... That we know of...
https://www.militaryindustrialcomplex.com/totals.asp?thisContractor=Gene…

In 2004, G.E became the major owner of one of the biggest news providers in the USA...... NBC.... Only recently have they sold some of their holdings in NBC, but still remain a major player..

Independent news broadcasting is no more... It died in the halcyon days of Neoconic hedonism post GFC... Murdochs investment in Pharmaceuticals reinforces this....
Enjoy the "not news", and vote for who you are told to... ;)

mitchvg Saturday, 25 Oct 2014 at 03:30 pm

was independent independent or just less directly biased...?

Sheepdog Saturday, 25 Oct 2014 at 04:30 pm

No need to travel that far, lift.......

Not looking good up your way, mitch..... Maybe first week next month....
Anyway, life is always good when you enjoy the cabaret.....

uplift Saturday, 25 Oct 2014 at 06:21 pm

Too late for that sheepster.

No latte market there either. Looks like a looooonngggg cold winter too. Stop fighting it dawg. Flow. 'Savouries by David'. Put 'the rave' to work. Baking before sunrise, he can get in a quick 15 minute 'perfect' surf, then have him pumping out pedigree latte's till dusk. Catho's. You can check the till and bank the takings every arvo. Let the rave have any left over scones for a bonus.

Classic cabaret clip. Reminds me of the annual Sceales Bay parade.

Sheepdog Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 12:17 pm

Uplift.... Are you asking me to do this? Fair enough.....

ps... The wife is the qualified baker...... I'm just the shitkicker.... You know, clean this, stack the chairs, accounting, orders, driving and more driving..... I'm expendable lol

uplift Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 01:02 pm

Perfect. Open a bakery at yorkes. Bite the bullet with the park fee thing. Of course, the real money, and perfect surf, and the forest, is at catho's. They wouldn't know what hit em. You could design a pie in honour of the queen, a corgie shaped pie.

yorkessurfer Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 03:46 pm

The old 'Yorkes' surf shop is up for rent down here sheepy, it could be a bakery/surf shop combo? Winter would be hard though, it's so quiet down here.
If you could supply Corny Point and Warooka with pies and stuff it could be viable?
I just want to try a scallop pie! Or better still a Corgie shaped Crayfish pie? Fuck that would be unreal!!!

Sheepdog Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 05:06 pm

hahaaa...... Rent or lease? That's the thing.... The lease down here is soooo cheap..... Have been thinking about that though, Yorko, lift.... I noticed on another thread (Yorkes comp thread my memory) that a lot of guys were whinging about no food for after surf munchies, takeaway sold out.... "book ahead at the pub" etc....
So I have been looking..... Been looking at real estate too.....
The only thing that puts me off yorkes is the rainwater/septic tank situation... So used to water on tap, and gutloads of it.... Cheap as chips down here..... I like my 20 minute hot showers lol......
Everything else about the Yorkes region, one particular region I wont name, nearly ticks every box.

BTW, still can't believe the prices of houses out your way, lift...... It's bullshit..... Never been to your part of OZ.... Will have to make an effort one autumn.... If the oysters are even 1/2 as good as Bruny Is, I'll be happy.....

salt Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 07:53 pm

Tried bruny, very very good, maybe I'm parochial but they are nothing on a WCSA oysters. And sheepy if your into pies SA knows a good pie, pastie and sausage roll like no other state. The fleurieu peninsula is home to the best bakery's in oz, IMO. Home grain at aldinga is pricey but man the pepper pie is just awesome!

yorkessurfer Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 07:58 pm

I just had a chat to the guy who owns the shop Sheepy. I surf with him a fair bit, he just got back from a surf trip to cactus.
He was just about to start advertising it for lease and thinks a bakery would be a good fit for the town so it could be worth considering?
You would need to do your homework on it though as I'm clueless when it comes to small business. He said I could drop his number on here. His name is Mark Sullivan ph. 0400877866.

Since the Rhinos Trading Post/Tavern at Stenhouse Bay shut at the end of last year the options for food have become somewhat limited around here.
Rhinos was down in the National Park and they suffered from being too far away from the main town of Marion Bay and the campers that used to be their main business started renting holiday houses in Marion Bay instead.

Water hasn't really been an issue lately but I remember during the last drought things got a little tight. Luckily a desalination plant was installed in town a few years ago so you can buy good quality water for around $10 per thousand litres if you get low. Bore water is much cheaper but you get what you pay for.
Anyway gives you something to think about.......

Sheepdog Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 08:32 pm

Cheers, yorko.... I'll show the boss, whoops, wife lol... Definitely coming back to the mainland... S.A rates high due to family connections..... Think I discussed our two preferred spots with you - yorkes and *****...

Hey salt!! Back in the day (early 90s), The Mt compass bakery did a decent pie.... And the german bakery up in Hahndorf did a wicked beesting cake... Was able to call in to S.A last year, but looked like Hahndorf had changed owners... Not as good... Never got to call in to Mt compass, cos was already full of beesting cake from the german bakery in Victor Harbour.... Very nice.... And yes, I love beesting cake :)

uplift Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 at 08:57 pm

The bakery in town was for sale for a long time in Elliston sheepster, don't know if it still is. So is the one out of town.

caml Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 01:03 pm

Craig Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 01:07 pm

udo Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 01:19 pm

Google: Colton baked, some pics and info, est 1997 shame it closed down.

mothart Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 01:45 pm

Yeah, it's missed. Would sometimes do the 40kay round trip for a loaf or sticky buns.

mothart Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 03:03 pm

You'd be pretty safe from Ebola there.
Maybe mark could put that in the ad.

Sheepdog Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 04:10 pm

Hey, Yorko.... Just for interest sake, and now that this thread is about yeast lol, you wrote that a kilo litre (1000 litres) costs $10.00

As I said, for interest sake, have a guess how much a kilo litre costs here.....

yorkessurfer Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 04:27 pm

Um.......20cents? Haha

Sheepdog Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 04:36 pm

Now be serious.... ;)

yorkessurfer Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 04:48 pm

I really have no idea Sheepy! I've been off mains for so long. I've heard that it is getting more expensive?
It's really easy to be water efficient in my opinion, you won't see a front lawn in my town, just native bushes and shrubs and if we want to go for a swim in summer the ocean is as clear as a chlorine swimming pool down here! Just no jerking off in the shower;-)

Sheepdog Monday, 27 Oct 2014 at 04:52 pm

Hmmm... Not a soap man myself ;)
95c per kl....... Not bad aye.......
Mate, the water down here is sooo clean.... But you turn blue, even in summer...... There's one lunatic in town that goes for a morning swim even in winter.... Just shorts...... Dead set hardcore old dude.....
