Man, so long as you are free you will always cherish the sea
The sea is your looking-glass: you contemplate your own soul in the infinite unfolding of its waves,
While your mind is a no less bitter gulf.

"There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved."

"The main problem in any democracy is that crowd-pleasers are generally brainless swine who can go on stage & whup their supporters into an orgiastic frenzy - then go back to the office & sell every one of the poor bastards down the tube for a nickel apiece." Hunter S. Thompson 1972

Allied to the Wade quote directly above:
"Did you just accuse someone who’s lived in the world biggest Muslim nation with his Indonesian wife and actually lived amongst Indonesians in a Muslim majority province a “narrow minded bigot scared of what he doesn’t know?"
"In regard to Indonesia and islam, yes i have lived and worked there and spent much time in Indonesia, most of which has been staying in private homes with Indonesians, and although my wife is catholic Indonesian, she has 10 aunties/uncles a few of which have married and converted to islam, one of her uncles even has a few wives.
I also have about a 50/50 split in Indonesian friends muslim and non muslim in Indonesia and OZ, although almost all of those muslim friends are really not practising (just do the Ramadan thing and not eat pork etc) but they generally come from family's that are much more religious and I've gone and stayed with a few which is interesting.
But in all honestly you don't really learn much about Islam itself from them just the way muslims in Indonesia live, even if you ask them about certain aspects of islam (that i rarely do) they generally don't know much about the details of things, i guess its no different to Christians most just go through the motions even those practising go to church sing a few songs, pray, listen to a sermon and then go about everyday life, if you ask them about aspects of the bible most cant tell you much, just the basic stories, its only the full on ones especially certain denominations or born again ones that can quote bible verses and then actually tell you what they really mean."
"Never let the facts get in the way of a good smear, hey ?"
"To be honest i think I've learnt more about islam itself from watching you tube videos from X muslims that have studied islam and questioned islam deeper and then gone fuck this shit makes no sense and have become atheist plus about how its practised in other counties which is practised quite differently to Indonesia."

Why on earth is this reposted in the quotes thread?
What does it have to do with anything here?
Your as bad as Crypto, Factom clearly butt hurt when you are clearly called out, then take things and run with them.

Im happy to argue the points i have written, which is basically just facts of what ive lived..
But why re-post here? Makes no sense to post here?
Why clog this thread up with topics discussed elsewhere?
There is already two current threads with that theme.

“What the housewives of Australia need to understand as they do the ironing is that if they get it done commercially it’s going to go up in price and their own power bills when they switch the iron on are going to go up.”
Tony Abbott, man with absolutely 'no problem with women' (how could he have, 'cos he's married to one and has two daughters), and former PM and Minister for Women.
Hmmm, the logic...
Every household I know of the ironing is done by a lady.
I’m sure this fact bothers some people.
C'mon crew,

Told this one while I was working at the local RSL last night:
Me: "Doctor, every time I drink a coffee I get a stabbing pain in my right eye."
Doctor: "I suggest you take the spoon out of the cup."
Fucking brought the house down, the kids loved it.
There's also this really religious lady working there in the kitchen, I suggested that we could make a place of worship - we could make a statue of baby Cheeses.

Air
I dream of swimming up through
pressured blue,
erupting beyond
that surface of shifting light
into air.
I wake, still swimming.
This pressured blue world
grows deeper.
That surface
of shifting light floats further
away.
I swim, suspended.
And you’re there.
We’re both
awake now and swimming through
the pressured blue and hoping
for air soon.
Silence in the silence–
and why not, when pressured blue
drowns out each other’s voice?
Why not, when we’re both swimming
now and the surface draws closer now
and something seems to be lifting us
up from below?
Why not talk up there,
beyond the trembling liquid edge of our
pressured blue world, where the shifting
light is air, and the air, where pressure
ends and space begins?

"Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.
In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant."
Karl Popper
Goop point , Facto.
That’s why it’s important to keep expressing opinions which the social engineers of modern society try to suppress. We must reject their intolerance of our questioning their irrational dogma.
With just under half of all Australians being born overseas and continued mass immigration, an important conversation needs to be had regarding how much we should be encouraging or even accepting the division of our society by ethnicity. The identity politics of recognising seperate and competing requirements based on skin colour or ancestry has the very real potential of fracturing the harmony of the nation.
Intolerance of any discussion or references to this needs to be rejected.
I don’t think that advocating anything beyond rational discourse , such as violence, has any real place in Australia though Facto.
what facto points to is a classic debate in political philosophy, that is often seen in the guise of (John Rawl-style) liberalism vs communitarianism.
but violence can't be the answer there. Popper seems to have strayed from his admirable strategy of falsificationism in thinking he could make such claims
Last night I watched a propaganda film from the mid 1970s made by the armed revolutionary group the weather underground.
https://archive.org/details/UndergroundEmileDeAntonio1976
there is also a good doco:
https://www.kanopy.com/product/weather-underground-0
their passion and committment is admirable...but the violence is obviously so misguided.
It's interesting stuff, Chook.
I've got that Weather Underground doco.
I remember on here somewhere having a brief but worthy discussion about the late 60s/early 70s groups that sprang up in the West - Red Army Faction (Baader-Meinhof), Angry Brigade, Weather Men/Underground - especially from the educated bourgeoisie. Separate from the Black Panthers or MOVE, and from the liberationist groups like the IRA and PLO etc.
I posted something about the poll tax riot in the UK on the What's What? thread yesterday. I was there.
Anyway, sorry I'm on the run today, so this is a bit glib, but when does 'violence' - in whatever guise - work, so to speak? Is it ever justifiable?
Or is all political violence equivalent and to be denigrated and resisted?
“It’s better to remain silent and be suspected of being stupid , than to open your mouth and have all suspicions confirmed .”
Of course all political violence is equivalent. It’s just your perspective that justifies it or not.
Is that a reference to the last quote or did you just refrain, Batfink ?
It was a reply to a comment on page one, but then came out here, which was totally out of place, so I just dot boyed it!
