Recap

A medium to large pulse of W/SW groundswell and shorter-range W/SW swell filled in yesterday with the Surf Coast offering fun 3ft waves on the Torquay reefs early with larger but choppier surf towards Barwon Heads. The Mornington Peninsula saw larger 8ft+ surf with Western Port offering the best waves on the incoming tide, while Phillip Island was also OK.

A secondary pulse of swell has kept good waves hitting both coasts today with fresh W/NW winds favouring protected breaks.

This week and weekend (Dec 11 -15)

Today's W/SW groundswell will ease slowly through today ahead of a more noticeable drop into tomorrow as we fall in between swells. W/NW winds will continue to favour the Surf Coast over locations east of Melbourne.

The swell should start to kick again through Friday ahead of a stronger increase in SW swell Saturday afternoon. This will be related to a couple of strong and favourably tracking polar fronts pushing up into us through the end of this week (pictured right). The strongest increase will be seen Saturday afternoon and early Sunday with 3ft+ sets expected around Torquay, with 4ft sets at Bells and Winki and 13th Beach. The Mornington Peninsula should offer 6ft+ sets.

Winds will generally be from the W/SW-SW Friday through Sunday with early W'ly winds across the Surf Coast.

Longer term (Dec 16 onwards)

Wave heights will slowly drop off into next week on the back of the frontal activity and winds look to become more favourable for the Mornington Peninsula, tending variable Monday morning and then being offshore from the E/NE Tuesday morning.
