South Australian Forecast (issued Monday 16th December)
Best Days: Wednesday morning at exposed spots, Thursday, early Friday
Recap
A good pulse of S/SW groundswell filled in Saturday offering solid waves across the South Coast with light morning onshore winds. The Mid Coast was cleaner but near flat.
The S/SW groundswell eased through Sunday with morning E/NE winds favouring selected spots across the coast. Today the swell is easing back further from 2-3ft across the South Coast with E'ly winds failing to really clean up the swell properly. Still protected locations offered fun waves for keen surfers.
This week (Dec 17 -20)
Wave heights will continue to ease on the back of the weekend's swell activity with winds remaining less than ideal and from the E/SE tomorrow morning, while Wednesday looks much cleaner with morning NE winds, but there won't be much size left across the coast.
Thursday's swell will ease into the afternoon, while a new long-range SW groundswell arriving for Friday keeping small waves hitting the coast. Get in early though as N'ly winds at dawn with give way to an onshore S'ly change during the day.
Longer term (Dec 16 onwards)
A surface trough bringing a cool change to the state later in the week will intensify while pushing across us Saturday aiming a fetch of strong S/SE winds into the South Coast kicking up a junky windswell. This will then ease a bit into Sunday and further Monday but persist in the 2ft range as a fetch of fresh to strong S/SE winds remained aimed into the South Coast.
The Mid will miss all this swell and remain effectively flat. Longer term there's nothing major on the cards but check back here on Wednesday for the latest update.
