South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 27th December)
Best Days: Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning down South, Thursday for beginners on the Mid, Sunday morning down South
Recap
There was only a small window of opportunity across the South Coast on Saturday morning with an early offshore and fun small swell before a strong S/SW change moved through at about 8am. This wrote off the surf for the rest of the day.
Sunday saw poor conditions down South with plenty of swell while the Mid Coast offered fun 1-1.5ft waves with a new long-range W/SW groundswell.
Today both swells have eased back to a tiny 1ft on the Mid and 2ft waves at Middleton with 2-3ft waves at Waits under a light morning offshore.
This week (Dec 30 – Jan 3)
Similar waves to today are expected across the South Coast tomorrow with a morning NE'ly wind favouring slightly protected locations.
Wednesday morning is looking good though with the arrival of a new long-range W/SW groundswell. This should offer inconsistent 2ft+ waves at Middleton and 3ft+ sets at Waits, while the Mid Coast should see 1-1.5ft sets.
You'll have to get in during the morning as fresh to strong N/NW winds will give way to a W/SW change during the afternoon.
A fun new S/SW groundswell is due Friday generated by a deepening frontal system moving in from the south-west (pictured right). This system will aim a fetch of SW gales through our southern swell window, with most locations expected to peak around 3-4ft Friday morning on the South Coast.
Winds will unfortunately be poor and from the S/SE to SW and then Saturday also looks average as the swell eases with a lingering SW tending S/SW breeze. There's an outside chance for early W'ly winds though around Victor.
This weekend onwards(Jan 4 onwards)
Sunday morning will be the pick of the weekend with a fun small S/SW swell and morning W/NW winds around Victor Harbor.
Longer term a medium sized S/SW groundswell is on the cards for early next week, but we'll discuss this again on Wednesday.
