Victoria Forecast (issued Monday 20th January)
Best Days: Thursday morning east of Melbourne, Friday morning at exposed spots
Recap
The weekend started off poor with a small to tiny amount of swell and stiff onshore breeze. A moderate increase in SW groundswell was seen Sunday but conditions remained average with persistent onshore winds leaving onshore messy waves for keen surfers.
Yesterday's swell is easing through today but conditions have remained poor with winds from the S/SE.
This week (Jan 21 -24)
Give the surf a miss tomorrow as the swell becomes small and winds linger from the SW.
A moderate increase in new SW groundswell from an intense mid-latitude low is expected on Wednesday afternoon but winds will remain average and from the S/SE.
Thursday should provide better waves on the Mornington Peninsula as the swell eases with a light morning E'ly breeze.
Friday will be the best day to surf at exposed spots across the state with a fun swell and N/NE winds ahead of a shallow SW change.
This weekend onwards (Jan 25 onwards)
A mix of long-range SW groundswell and closer-range SW swell are due to fill in over the weekend, but again winds will be the main problem, blowing fresh from the S/SW Saturday and then E/SE Sunday.
Into next week there's nothing major on the cards until mid-late week when a long-range SW groundswell may arrive. We'll review this again Wednesday though.
