The weekend didn't offer much in the way of decent surf, as a change Friday afternoon lingered into Saturday and Sunday in the South West, while further north more favourable SE winds were seen Sunday morning but with small amounts of swell.

A new SW groundswell built strongly into the afternoon and this has peaked this morning to a good 6ft to occasionally 8ft around Margs under light to moderate SE winds, while Perth is seeing good 2ft+ sets with larger 4-5ft waves around Gero.

This swell should ease during the afternoon as winds go onshore.

This week and weekend (Mar 10 - 16)

There's plenty of SW groundswell expected this week across the state with Wednesday being the pick in the South West under offshore E/SE winds, while further north conditions will be good for most of the week before a change moves through Friday leaving S/SE winds in its wake.

These pulses of SW groundswell will be generated front after front being aimed up towards the south-west of the state by the Long Wave Trough. The LWT is currently sitting over our south-west but is slowly moving to the west and will sit in the Bight from tomorrow evening into the end of the week.

This will direct frontal systems further and further east further away from our prime swell window, with one final system pushing up into us Friday generating a final pulse of stronger S/SW groundswell Saturday.

Unfortunately winds will be still be fresh from S/SE Saturday morning across the South West which will be picking up the most size, with more favourable SE winds further north although the S/SW direction will limit size to 2ft around Perth.

Sunday looks much better with offshore E/SE winds and a dropping swell.

Next week onwards (Mar 17 onwards)

Into next week the only significant swell due across the state is a long-range and inconsistent but medium sized SW groundswell Tuesday. This swell will be generated by a strong polar front firing up east of Heard Island but the track of this low will be unfavourable and to the south-east.

Winds however should be good for this swell and offshore, but we'll review this on Wednesday.
