Watch: Jaws late January

Two vids that give a comprehensive rundown of the late January swells at Jaws.

The first day, the one you've no doubt already seen footage of, was 20ft but it was the lack of wind that characterised the day. Maui glass was a real, non-ironic thing, and more barrels were ridden that day than what sometimes get ridden in whole seasons, including Billy Kemper's make which is surely one of the most perfect barrels yet seen at Jaws.

First up, is Red Bull with their long running 'Sessions' franchise...

Followed by the first instalment of the Wozzle's big wave feature series - At Large. This, you may recall, is where their XXL energy is focussed now that the Big Wave Tour is no more.

Two days after Billy got his barrel, Jaws broke again, but this time bigger and windier, and tow was the order of the day. That session is also included in the Wozzle film.

From a media standpoint, it's gonna be interesting to see how Red Bull and the Woz go in this arena. There's a large amount of crossover, same surfers, same waves, many of them even shot by the same filmer.

Is this town big enough for the two of them?

Another wsl clip to watch with the sound down, sick waves but the constant American chest pounding and talking themselves up constantly is terrible, interviewing each other and wanking on about what they will do , especially the ones who dont back it up with a performance. Go Kai Lenny , amazing, best ever maybe? Please dont encourage a tow surfing resurgence .

Lenny and Kemper take it to the next level. The conditions on each of the two days showed there can be a smart demarcation between paddle and tow. How's the nose on Ian Walsh's board?

Kai Lenny talking about strike missions, in a vid about surfing Jaws.

Doesn't he live on Maui?

Strike missions aren’t defined by distance. Some of my most compelling strike mission memories are to the local servo for a microwaved chicken hero after a big session on the Hong Kong.

Do they still sell chicken heroes ?

Kai Lenny was insane. No one even came close to his rides and commitment. How short was his board?

Kai Lenny is definitely in a league of his own when it comes to tow surfing at Jaws. He's toying with 20-footers like they were 3-foot peaks at his local beachie for fuck's sake!
