As of today, South Africans are on day 53 of hard lockdown. Or it could be day 54, they're not sure, it's hard to count all the chalk marks on the cell block wall.
Time ticks interminably onwards, the pantry empties, leaves turn brown and fall, swells come and go.
For surfers like Chad DuToit it's a matter of living on memories; recalling pre-lockdown life so you can make it to post-lockdown with all your marbles.
Durbanite Chad, who went on a QS tear last year, placing second and third in consecutive domestic comps, took one last trip to the south coast, lucking into a great run of swell just before the doors closed.

Great surfer & great surf! It's also a good technique lesson from Chad. So many good ZA surfers with fluid & powerful styles, great positioning. I think of Frankie Oberholzer as an example from the 90's, still going strong.
Waves were the star of that, as I like to see.

Nice slow motion when u watch, never in my life I ever had a chance to surf in the Tube before, am sure u have to be good with surfing which means getting up on ur surfboard fast to be able to surf inside the Tube, while I am a slow coach could get up quickly enough to make into the tube. Well, it will be tricking on a longboard too that I love to surf with?

Sick waves. Pity filmmakers cut to one manoeuvre so often. I like seeing those waves peel off and dudes dealing with sections etc and surf the whole wave. That’s why I like watching contest footage on utube.
Noticed Jordy Smith in background, but no footage of him is most unusual. Also wasn't aware that Fabio surfed .
