Watch: Russ Bierke // First Name In The Water

Good news in the surf industry?

Hasn't been much of that lately, however an email from Rob Bain from O'Neill bucked the trend. Wrote Bainy: "I'm super stoked to announce that O’Neill has just re-signed Russ Bierke to the global team."

"In a time when anything could happen, and is, it was really nice that we kept Russ as part of the family."

They don't come out often, but when they do, Russ' clips are wildly popular. And the young bloke not only has the ability to thrill, but also generate enormous goodwill. While mixing it with the jutting big wave titans, Russ remains the self-effacing kid from Ulladulla.

Good news for all parties.

The following clip was put together by Andrew Kaineder.

Good luck to him. Seems like a humble guy.

Russ has such a great style, he and Kirk have put in so much time to get him this far. Deserves to be sponsored

I’d be happy to buy an O’Neil product in the knowledge that it would be helping this bloke out.

Could watch Russ clips all day.

That's great news for Russ & O'Neill. Big wave surfing needs good news like this during this time & Russ is a great Aussie ambassador for this genre of the sport.

And epic clip by Andrew too.

I bet he needs custom suits.
I used to buy Oneil suits but at some point they changed the patterns and they no longer fit my skinny legs. All my slender legged mates are in the same boat and now use Xcel or other brands.
I reckon Russ's frame is pretty wiry too.
Oneils and Billabong, no good for the skinny legged amongst us.

ST: 6′0″-6′2″ 145-165 lbs 36.5-38.5″ 29-31″

That's proper skinny territory, Yendor.

My size L O'neill 4/3 fits about the same as my size MT Xcel 3/2

It's only in the calves where the difference is noticable. I often think those with super chunky calves must also find suit sizing difficult.

Always found the oneill suits big in the waist and tight in the crotch but maybe thats just body shape ha ha

+1 sangsta.
Absolutely rips and seems like a really good fella.
Flow State from last year one of the best surf flicks I've seen.

Such positive response to a clip that's essentially an ad – underscores how right a brand can get it. Good work and a hard won win for Bainy n crew.

Great stuff and those boards are classic hollow wave shooters with that amount of nose rocker way different to the standard Wossel board. Has he been to chopes and pipe I reckon he would go OK when it got big at both of those spots. Not that any of us is going anywhere for a while.

Surfed with him in SA a few times and he blew my mind. Better than anyone I've seen with my own eyes by a country mile and a super friendly guy. No one deserves this more than Russ and his supporters. Thanks Oneill for keeping it real
