Watch: JJF // 26 waves from home

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Reels

The first Florence Marine X clip is a simple little number: 26 waves, all caught along the Logs to Rocky Point stretch, backed by a dead ahead guitar/bass/drums score.

What more do you want?

andy-mac Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 09:29 am new

Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!

juegasiempre Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 09:37 am new

You don't need a bunch of people flying around the world for a year to different spots to know that he's the best surfer on the planet. Always a joy to watch.

goofyfoot Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 10:00 am new

Nothing, I want nothing more. That was sick

manic- mat -rider Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 10:20 am new

So good .

Blowin Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 11:05 am new

Holy shit. So inspirational.

Surfing wouldn’t be the same without spray from turns.

Surfalot67 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 11:15 am new

Best on ground. Always.

Gowsa Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 11:17 am new

Good to see Cat Weasel is still rocking the Bum-Fluff
Bet he has a great Banjo collection

lost Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 11:18 am new

....1m groms about to order new boards right now with a black base and deep deep red deck....

stunet Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 01:01 pm new

Just putting it out there: I already had that colourway.

Not copying.

lost Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 04:58 pm new

Ha ha it does look good. Hope you can do better on the goatie/beard front. That fluff could be plucked in about 2 mins.

Pops Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 11:36 am new

Wow.

Craig Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 11:55 am new

57s, that full powered carve to fin slide and steezy grab rail, drool!

freeride76 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 12:15 pm new

the speed and projection out of those bottom turns, is nutz

tiger Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 12:54 pm new

I think his knee is ok!

memlasurf Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 01:00 pm new

Yep all of the above. That is some rail surfing that guy can do the lot superfreak.

Island Bay Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 01:00 pm new

Some magic there, alright.

(Still partial to that other bloke's surfing.)

jasper99 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 02:09 pm new

Well that just destroyed most other clips released this year.....

freeride76 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 02:29 pm new

is that the best small/medium wave surfing ever?

I'm struggling to think of anything that matches it.

Pops Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 02:35 pm new

Dunno how you could objectively judge best, different strokes etc, but it's surely right up there.
Just the shear speed he's generating blew me away, let alone the explosiveness and rail work. It's as if he's doing step offs.

Blowin Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 02:41 pm new

I reckon it is.

Some blokes might want more airs in their diet but for mine that’s as good as surfing gets .

Hiccups Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 03:21 pm new

Farrrk. That one BS reverse where he travelled a lloonngg way made up for 20 of most airs.

Kc Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 03:40 pm new

Maybe Dane in Japan in Dear Suburbia comes close

tango Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 10:15 pm new

yep. mental. and he's got style. even better than GOAT.

ballbagmanifesto Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 05:09 pm new

Still Dane.

Jono Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 02:42 pm new

Great surfing. And with the small Hawaiian waves and soundtrack, it was almost like JJF had jumped in the DeLorean and starred in his own Momentum section.

bluediamond Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 10:40 pm new

haha, Was thinking the same. Felt like a grommet again!! Absolutely shredding JJF.

surfstarved Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 03:16 pm new

26 waves? That's more than I've caught in the last six months!

Interesting that he released the clip just after Medina's one came out (or is that just the order they were posted here?). Maybe learned a trick or two from KS...

freeride76 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 03:40 pm new

Yeah Dane was the only I could think of who is close.
Good call on Dear Suburbia

ballbagmanifesto Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 05:23 pm new

The Hawaiian power at 4-6 foot really helps JJF here in comparison, but its still got to be Dane by some margin. - Sorry to tag you twice with this Dane rebuttal/worship, but since you're here, he'll probably have a hand in developing the vaccine too ( not as one of the main guys, that's unrealistic, but in an administrative capacity, mos def)

velocityjohnno Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 03:56 pm new

Stu posted some vintage Occy recently (on bigger waves) that had an equally good aesthetic

But yeah, the carves and how he can tuck under into the barrel from anywhere.

Michael Bourne Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 04:07 pm new

These too can do it too.

Island Bay Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 04:16 pm new

Total wave savant.
I can think of no other surfer that becomes one with the wave like he does.

freeride76 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 04:33 pm new

good calls MB.

Blowin Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 05:32 pm new

Ry rips harder than I would in ten lifetimes of trying but he isn’t in the same conversation as JJF.

And despite Marzo’s nearly unparalleled tube riding , wave intuition and inimitable approach he doesn’t remotely compare to the rail work displayed by JJF .

Each to their own . But personally, whilst I’ve been left slack jawed by Marzo’s skill many times I’ve never been inspired to surf like I was when I watched this clip of John John.

Island Bay Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 06:46 pm new

If I could please have Margo's huge rail turns and Medina's tube steeze that would do it. (Is 2020 the Margo comeback year? All of a sudden he's everywhere, and Im more than happy with that).

Dan87 Monday, 2 Nov 2020 at 11:29 am new

Could not agree more! JJ on a different plane!

NoUseforaName Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 05:59 pm new

Storms have cleared. It’s 2 foot and weak as piss but I’m going surfing.

velocityjohnno Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 07:27 pm new

Clay Marzo just falling into those left tubes, incredible style and ability.

freeride76 Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 07:42 pm new

one of my fav Marzo clips.
just toying with this 8ft Indo Right.

velocityjohnno Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 09:38 pm new

this was quite beautiful, very creative & only a few weeks old:

Michael Bourne Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 08:28 pm new

Yeh, insane understanding of the whole thing. Love how he and Craike know how to stand in the maelstrom and soak it up. Like Irons, Slats and Reynolds said, Marzo... next level untouchable.

inzider Wednesday, 28 Oct 2020 at 08:55 pm new

Next level shredding

Johan Wohlleben Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 12:35 am new

Whaaat the? Amazing surfing-how does he generate so much speed with pivot bottom turns??? And all the other styling and airs?? Woohooo!!

crg Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 11:25 am new

Faark me...those gaffs about the 1:00 and 2:00 min mark are incredible.
His boards look a lot faster and free in the tail.

theolderIgetth… Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 11:47 am new

yep - the one at 2 minutes was the one for me..

reminiscent of a full Luke Egan demolition turn...

ringmaster Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 11:53 am new

That Marzo clip in 'perfect W.A lefts'.

FUGGEN HELL!

Absolute next level tube riding to just about anyone.

Sprout Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 12:02 pm new

If I could do one of those turns I'd be happy.

t-diddy Thursday, 29 Oct 2020 at 08:19 pm new

some of the water displaced is still in the sky

sean killen Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 07:19 am new

adambol1 Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 08:11 am new

Fins must be taking a battering, none lost?

_Bodhi_ Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 04:42 pm new

Yep... the cream of the crop.... the extreme outlier... sorry fellow wsl competitors it’s just not your time atm.

Michael Bourne Friday, 30 Oct 2020 at 06:58 pm new

After a Marzo/Craike fest, I watched JJF. I can see what he's adding to his surfing. Vintage, matured, extra sharp Marzo/Craike.

These two of Marzo, first next level surfing on some rocks, next levelling some shitty stuff, and then taking that attitude to the grunt. Then, in the next vid, absolutely gutless US crud, making that crud something (the something that's obviously got into JJF's head), out of absolutely nothing. But, just add a little bit, a tiny sceric of juice to that slop, and sparks fly. They, the big guns, all noticed him, they had to, they couldn't just use the old look away and miss it, and because, as they said, untouchable next level. Its inside JJf's head too.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="

frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="

frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Again, years ago. Craike takes to some sludge. His grunt surfing is without question. Just hook inside him and start absolutley carving if you want to. But this vid is crappy sludge. Around the 1.09 min. Slow it down for another look as well. Quarter speed. The back foot boogie man, a real one, rare these days. You can't miss it. Again, making something out of a crumbling crud heap, a coiled, sunset bottom turn, and then lets it all loose. Spray lands in JJF's head. Then the last segment. Look and learn. Looks a hell of a lot like JJF is these days.
