Dark skies, brown water, sloppy waves, dreamy conditions they ain't, but for Gabriel Medina anything's better than another damn game of Playstation.

Though it's still a while off, the opening days of the Newy Pro aren't looking too flash on the forey either.
Though, hopefully, the rain may stop before then.

I’m sometimes more impressed by what they can do in these kinda waves than at a perfect 6ft point break

Reactions to that turn at 1:05 :
1981 and previous- FBI would kidnap the surfer and subject them to invasive tests under the logical assumption that they were an alien life form capable of impossible feats.
1991- People would be stunned. News would feature clip on endless rotation. Immediately granted the title of undisputed best surfer in world history.
2001-Finishing move in the starring role in a surf movie.
2011- Head turning but a dozen people in the world can complete so not outrageous.
2021- Meh. Literally hasn’t rated a mention from the commentariat on a throwaway internet clip. Crew more likely to remark on colour of the water.

Great article on BG btw. Completely agree on his "wave of truth," comment being a particularly beautiful translation. The fact that it came from someone who always steps up and absolutely charges when it gets seriously heavy made it even more poetic. A company man he is not, which makes him all the more enigmatic. Good luck to him I say, gonna be an interesting year.

Funny - I went through and the only turn I immediately re-watched was the cutback / s turn directly after that turn. I thought it was more interesting than the air - and it just looked 'nice.'

Was great surfing but after the diet of JJF in Hawaii and Josh in Indo, was all a bit pump, pump turn, air, paddle in. Waves were awful and that water needs to be tested for ecoli.

To be fair as above, Medina is bloody good at creating something out of nothing.
Haha memla. If we're going test the water in Newcastle for ecoli, we might as well check the rest of NSW while we're at it!

That was as possibly the most uninspiring surfing I have ever seen from ol' Gabs. The waves were really bad, but he usually does something to make you go wow rather than turn off or fall asleep.

The still shot on the video link is a great capture of his new patented "inverted reverse squat poo" move. Perfected in the less than sanitary beach bogs of Brazil when he forgets his thongs. Run in, do the move, hope the emission drops in the hole and out again without touching the unclean floor.
