Watch: Ryan Callinan // Just For Now

With the Newy Schooey starting in two days, this clip is a timely watch. It's local lad R'Cal showing that a lack of competition hasn't dulled his act.

If anything, it's got better. With a mix of big moves and progressive spins, it's arguably the best edit he's ever dropped.

not really humanly possible to surf better than that...what more could he do...?

Those backhand bottom turns make Gary moist.

Well, even moister than usual

Best backhand in surfing at the moment. Those vertical nearly upside down carves with speed are outstanding. Notice how low his back leg is on backhand bottom turns. It's also good to see the best stuff a late takeoff like us normal surfers. Well worth the watch. Would be great with 300 fps footage to examine his backhand bottom turns.

really nice edit.

I think his backhand is a still a notch or two below Medina and Ferriera.

His forehand is nuts though. Huge combos.

I was thinking of Stricko when he was taking apart that left at ........

Incredible surfing. There's only a few surfers on Earth who can push traditional rail surfing into progressive territory - JJF, Dane, Jordy for a year or two, sometimes Gabs, and definitely Ryan in the clip.

I got to 9:10 and rewound that manoeuvre about 10 times, and then got to 9:17 and "holy shit(ted)" out loud! He's a tall dude too, and makes it all look so compact and then elastic and smooth. Loved it

The move before it, the straight air into perfect transition, is the one for me.

9:10 looks a lot like a grown up version of his closing move in 'Blow Up' - released ten years ago!
