Watch: Tim Bonython // After The Rain

It's usually the case on the southern end of the East Coast that the best waves come at the end of a weather event.

And it was absolutely the case for the recent bout of wind and rain. No-one went near the water for five days, but then an overnight wind switch brought one of the better days in the last few months.

And as is usually the case, Tim Bonython was on hand to film it.

Props to the boog sendlords paddling the crazy MFers.

Bob Sacamano Tuesday, 30 Mar 2021 at 12:49 pm new

The boogs give it a good crack don't they. Everyone out there does though as its not a friendly wave for anyone. For a long while the wave wasn't even looked at as theres so many others around here. It was about 96 or 97 when we seen Mike Stewart and Eppo first getting slabbed out there and giving it a crack that a lot of us thought to give it a go too.

hati hati Tim...a road safety message to drive "super carefully" across Sydney harbour Bridge while filming yourself? That's more dangerous than any wave in the Terror Vault I reckon.....

is it though...?

Reckon I'd feel significantly more comfortable traversing the SHB driving a bus with crash box chatting on the phone while eating a big mac at 10pm in a rainstorm wearing sunglasses than I would making it out of one of those

Image of Wayne Cleveland used as breakout - see homepage - more than a little similar to a famous Bob Barbour shot of 15-year old Pottz at Pipe.

Big Wayne charged from other side of peak on a normal board with no foot straps.

stunet Tuesday, 30 Mar 2021 at 01:57 pm new

If ever there was a justification for wearing a helmet, that wave is it.

gannet Tuesday, 30 Mar 2021 at 02:04 pm new

How's the drop at 8:40 ?!
I was getting a bit worried there for a moment

"Southern end of the East Coast", but it was on the Mid North Coast?

stunet Tuesday, 30 Mar 2021 at 03:53 pm new

Yeah, the western end of the Mid North Coast.

Classic Rock Ledge Shorey. Hoping there was some spongy cunji on the bottom of those below sea level drainers.
