Watch: Sublime Hideaways
As per the message received from videographer Balint Hambalko: "I am since one month in the Mentawais and finally yesterday we got a solid south-west swell with the right wind for Hideaways.. made the afternoon session one for the books! The waves turned ON only for 45-60 minutes - just before the sunset - as the pushing tide put some water on the dry reef!"
The footage is raw but this only adds to the authentic vibe of the session.
Oh, how I long to be back on the road...

I thought billy kemper (4:02) surfed better than that on his backhand..
Some guys are going to get some epic uncrowded waves up in the Ments again this year!

I've surfed there a few times, found it hard for me on my backhand. Geez it'd be great to be around that area right about now.
One of my favourite lefts.
Surfed it about 5 times (May '19), and I reckon we got it that good. Cruised it on my 6'10 DS and loved it.
Is it just me, or is the crew of US and European surfers chasing swells to other countries, often places getting completely steamrolled by covid, just slightly f@cked?
Im not really a fan of the nathan florences or billy kempers in the first place, but seeing how they are just cruising around to mexico, indo etc. strikes me as pretty entitled

Yep spent 12 months travelling the world chasing swells and was able to hitch a ride on the WSL plane back to Aus (and quarantine in the big 2 bed apartments the WSL organised). It’s entitled as fuck. Only coming back for a few months too apparently, mentioned it in a comment

How do these people just create a disconnect in their minds between their lived reality and what their idols are allowed to do?

Yes...who ARE these people travelling to Indo? There are a few Aussie accents - are they surf camp staff? Are they cashed up tourists who can pay off immigration officials? I was pretty sure you couldn't leave australia without official permission.

Stayed at Kandui in 2014, we got to surf Hideaways on the Wavepark changeover day. Just me, my mate, Ray & the Medic out all day. 3-4 foot but as clean as it gets. Definitely one for the memory bank.
