Watch: Weird Waves // Lake Tahoe

Mr Graves is dropping them quickly...

With the comments still fresh on his 'Children of the Weird' clip, he's gone and released the next one in the series: Surfing on Lake Tahoe.

Straddling the California/Nevada border, Tahoe is a freshwater lake sitting at the base of a number of ski resorts, and at almost 1,900 metres high it's only a couple hundred metres shy of Australia's tallest hill.

Once again, Dylan manages to hook up with worthwhile personalities; the kind of people who could talk you into surfing 1 foot waves in near-freezing water.

I especially like how they decided to shoot the pier after having beers in the carpark.

Surely a prerequisite?

Extra bit of trivia, Rory Koff was the drummer for SoCal punk band No Use for a Name.

Bonus points!

Awesome! Saw them down at Coogee Bay. Was one of the heaviest circle moshes I have been in.

Sheer tomfoolery.

yeah that was a good one...cool ...literally...who would thought .

Was an enjoyable vid. Love the camaraderie.

That bloke that said Tahoe was the only surfing he knew. Imagine the intense pleasure of a glassy, head-high, peeling point wave? It'd blow his mind.

Would love to get there to snowboard one day.

Recommend it Zen, the snow's a bit heavy but it's a beautiful area with friendly people.

Squaw for a bit of a scene with some challenging terrain or Alpine Meadows for some really nice quiet runs with virtually no people.

Then do a road trip out to Telluride :)

Sounds good Andy. I was actually planning on going back to the US and Canada this year but covid has put paid to that.

So many great places to ski/board in America, I've been to Washington a couple of times but would love to get to Utah.

Couple of happy snaps Zen, first from Squaw then from the Lake Tahoe itself.

Final two are Telluride, town (base) is at 2600m so pretty snow sure.
Lovely town too, not some pre-fab ski village but an old mining town situated in a box canyon.

Wow! Cheers Andy, now you've really piqued my interest. That steep looking down into the valley looks sick and the village has a pretty cool wild west look to it (gentrified I dare say). At that altitude, the snow must be really nice. I'm psyched! I know there's a resort in that general area called Alta- no snowboards allowed though which is pretty stupid I reckon.

Jamyardy Sunday, 30 May 2021 at 03:55 pm new

I've been snowboarding at Snowbird Zen, which is very close to Alta, pretty good snow, I think I heard somewhere they reckon Utah has the driest snow on the planet, not sure how accurate that is though. I've hit some good resorts in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana too. Good fun when you too far from the sea.

In summer that lake is freezing!!! Can’t imagine winter. An awesome part of the world.

Hoodie Friday, 28 May 2021 at 03:42 pm new

that made me HAPPY.

watching that was a great way to finish the week, leaving work with a smile on my dial now

ridiculous

How stoked are they? Camaraderie between the group is great to see. This would be quite a fun thing to do when it's blizzard stage up on the mountain.

Also, I reckon Dylan and Weird Waves are putting out some of the happiest content in surfing right now, and surely that's what it's all about :)

Gary G Saturday, 29 May 2021 at 10:53 pm new

Gary can’t think of any other content that truly bottles the surfing experience: the unbridled stoke, the willingness to do whatever it takes to get your fix.

Love it.

Loved it. Reminded me of 'waves' we surfed in Denmark 35 years ago.
