Watch: Lobotomy

Through all the bought and sold brouhaha - bought by luxury goods brand Kering for $608 million, recently sold to ABG for $75 million - Volcom has remained remarkably consistent. Logo hasn't changed, nor has the company's 'dicking with the straights' branding, the team riders barely change, and same with their filmmaker Ryan Miller who's been with Volcom for decades releasing a number of movies with crunching guitar soundtrack and a sounds-profound voiceover.

The same formula is on show in the thirty-minute long 'Lobotomy'.

Great surfing in average waves is my least favourite genre.
For me, when I click, I want to see waves of beauty and consequence.
My highlight was the punk dancing and the longboarding ballet. Both very cool

nah this is epic, brings out the grommet froth. Volcom have the best mix of surfing. Couple of those turns by Jack Robinson in the first couple of minutes at "that" rockwall on the east coast is epic.....

I'm in 100% agreement with you both.

Grommet: Some of those turns were siiiiiiiick. And how was that farkin left-hander?????

Old bugger: I was over the airs after the second one. But the ability of those young blokes....fark.

With the exception of one early song, that was a decent soundtrack too.

Know what you mean, how much air is enough? 1. Or 2. But some pretty righteous waves (only about 5 minutes of those).

I hate close up zoomed in surf footage. I want to see th whole wave a section and the character. Of the wave. Probs justme though. I could. Only. Watch 2 waves and i,m done

I agree FR. You should see the way Bill Strobek has popularised filming streetskating. You hardly get to see a third of the skater's body a lot of the time, let alone get a full view of the obstacle/terrain. No doubt we'll be seeing similar in surf edits aimed at the yoof.

That said, I liked JR's footage, and Noa's switch stuff was pretty mental.

I was surprised to see that it wasn't Thee Oh Sees. Surely at least there are some overlap in band members.

Waxing Gibbous Tuesday, 27 Jul 2021 at 08:38 pm new

I spent the entire clip thinking it was the Thee oh Sees. Not bad, just sounds like it was borrowed.
