I've been booked since 2019 and just maybe, maybe 2022 I return to Macca's.
He's like that rich cousin isn't he?

And heck yes, I'd wring his neck in a second.
I agree with you, it's a quality wave and a fun wave that pretty much anyone can surf, but kind of overrated and many other waves in Indo and Mentawai's in comparison are kind of underrated.
I think it's real drawcard is its consistency, it's super consistent, it gets a decent amount of swell, surfable from knee high to biggest swells of the year, doesn't change all that much with the tide, direction doesn't change it too much and it still breaks pretty good in a light onshore or cross shore SE that is the most predominant wind.
Also its downfall is it's wave pool type quality of breaking in the same spot every time means its pretty much wait in line and most waves are made, unlike say Telescopes where you can sit in different positions, catch wider ones, or ones guys dont make or inside ones etc
IMHO Nias is also overated, yeah its perfect but its short.
Id personally rather go surf lesser known waves some of which can get just as good on there day, but sadly those type of waves that were once empty are now getting busy too.

We had three days at Macaronis, incl one where we were the only boat/people there.
It was fun, absolutely. Not being precious about it. Just had more excitement and just fun elsewhere

I found this email on Greig's insta page. I meet him when he was managing Wavepark in the Playgrounds area. He was a really good guy.

And I think he actually nails it: the "real surfers" will still watch it because he actually charges, the wave quality is top, video production is great with multiple angles, etc. And then the "not so real surfers" probably also tag along also for his enthusiasm and energy... It's not too different to the Koa Smith and JOB video vibes... OR if you want to feel more at home the Steve Irwin vibes!!
