Watch: First Jaws Swell of the Year

Way back in August, Craig Brokensha forecast that this Hawaiian season will under-perform owing to La Nina. While the Oz East Coast gets doused with rain and swell, Hawaii's storm track has been pushed further north.

Peahi first broke back in October, relatively early in the season, but it's seen little action since then, with most of the focus on Pipeline.

Yesterday, however, the first in a series of large north-west swells hit the north facing coasts, with Peahi breaking at 12-15 ft under light morning winds. It wasn't huge Peahi, but oh so clean. The lemon next to a pie that's yet to be served. Props to Paige Alms for the drop at 0:29.

Tomorrow, another swell of similar size will hit Maui, allowing even more warm up time for when the next real swell hits.

If you were thinking about surfing Jaws...that looks about the perfect day to start.

It looks almost manageable at that size, until they show the clean up sets. Nice work by Paige, hanging in by the toenails.

Is Bear the originator of the lemon pie. Such a classic!

Nah, he's just a garbage man.

(according to him)

Be a great recipe: Bear's Lemon Pie.

It's big, of course, and best eaten on a Wednesday.

Well played x2

Might have a crack at it tomorrow!

The booger dropping in at 1.40 could have ended up being a complete disaster.
I'm afraid I wouldn't have shown the same amount of restraint as Tyler after that....
