Watch: Mavs // April 22nd

Been a quiet old season for mainland America's biggest wave. Few XL swells early in the year, most ruined by north wind, then long periods of nothing.

On April 22nd a northwest swell hit under less-than-ideal conditions: the wind was never true offshore, however it was enough to slake the thirst of Cali's unsated big wave surfers.

First video is by Tucker Wooding, filming from a boat, and opens with a decent cleanup set, while the second is from Powerlines and is mostly filmed from shore. Many waves are caught from both angles.

Fark 5:08 on the second vid - casually hanging inside catching a few mellow ones, then the rogue set from hell appears

Carnage.
Never a pretty place, but that looked particularly nasty.

Not a wave i will ever save up for to visit that's for sure. But i do wonder how many secret spots there are around there for smaller swells.
